American Hero Quilts and More

This is a quilt top that I sent off to American Hero Quilts, to be quilted and given to a wounded soldier. I have always wanted to do this and finally did. So rewarding and I got the nicest thank you card from them.

Here is another quilt top that I got finished up and just gave to friend to quilt. It will have prairie points on the top and bottom but not the sides. I have not done them before, and that is how the pattern is so thought it would be fun to try. This was a BOM that was done at our local quilt shop called $10 Quilts. This is my 3rd year participating. Last years is done and back from the quilter, I just need to do the binding. I will post a picture of it at later date.

Welcome 2012

I don’t know as I am so into “New Years Resolutions” probably because I am honest enough with myself to know a year is a really long time to commit to something you haven’t been able to get yourself to do over the last year already. :) However this year I do want to try to make some changes in my life – “Life Style Changes” so to speak.

Being a Plan-a-lot-a-mus, as my daughter calls me I can overfill my day and year with all the wonderful things I want to do and accomplish 20 times over, so to limit my ideas and plans to just a few is hard, hence why the resolutions are probably broken. So even though there are several things I want to do this upcoming year they are really just a few overall goals I have. But foremost God and Family first.

For Starters: This year I want more of God in my life. He’s always in the fore front of my mind, but I want to dive back into His word more than I did in 2011. I know that putting Him first will allow me to do things I never dreamed I could. It’s like He wonderfully allows you to do more with the little time you have left. One of the ways I want to spend more time with God is I want to blog more. I love the time I would spend researching things and looking up scripture to write my blogs. I also love the idea that it might the words that someone else needed to hear that day. Over the last year I have allowed myself to get a writers block. But it was a different type of writers block. This one had to do with PP – PC. What is PP –PC? People Pleasing – Political Correctness. See every time I would think of something I wanted to write about a thought would come (or the devil would plant a seed) what if so and so reads this it may offend them. Well as our enemy does, he uses part truths to deceive us into believing him. Yes it may offend some people but I have a voice and God will use me as a vessel if I let Him. And His word states they were offended for the words sake. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but I can’t help anyone either by being silent. So with that being said I am signed up to do Renee Swope’s Online Bible study “A confident Heart”. I will be spending time with God and learning to be more confident in stating God’s word. Walking in love does not mean that I have to bow down to everyone else’s opinion. I think a lot of us christians have been deceived into believing we couldn’t be humble and speak up at the same time. I will be using my Growing in His Love Blog to record some of my learning and growing from that study. Funny this is the Second time that I have had the opportunity to do this study…coincidence, I don’t think so.

Now one of the next things I want to accomplish this year is make a permanent change to my eating and fitness regiment. I want to get off the yo yo diet ride and learn to eat what my body needs and exercise not to just loose weight but to increase my longevity. God promises us a long life, but don’t I have a responsibility in this. With that being said I have had the opportunity more than once to do the “Made to Crave” (satisfying your deepest desire with God not food) Bible study with Lysa Terkeurst. Both Rene and Lysa are from Proverbs 31 Ministries. Again I don’t think it is a coincidence that this study has come to me more than once. This Study I will blog about on my blog “Living for the Master”.

More of God is my priority of resolutions, along with being healthy. But some of the other goals that I want to work on is finishing some of the many quilt projects that I have started. I have various reasons on each project why it is partial done, however they are still undone. I just mailed off a quilt yesterday to “American Hero Quilts” It was such a nice feeling to know that something was finished up and that a wounded soldier that put his or her life on the line for me would be comforted by something I made. This has given me a renewed drive to finish these quilts. Before I would finish the baby quilts because I had a shower to go to. But now I have this desire to finish the quilts to give to soldiers, and womens shelters, the homeless. Mom would be proud, she use to feed the homeless every week – maybe I can keep a few of them warm.

Last year we started a new tradition of monthly breakfasts with the kids and grandkids. This year we are continuing however we are going to do Birthday related lunches. I will still host and cook, however who ever has a Birthday that month gets to pick the menu. If we have multiple Birthday’s that month they may each get to pick a menu Item.

I will repost this on each of my blogs. One Bible study will be on each of my Christian Blogs, and the quilting will be on my Quilt Blog, so this post is relevant for all three. The family fun will just randomly be posted on one or the other of the blogs.

Seeing that I have very few blog posts last year, it will be interesting to see if my resolution to do more this year will continue or fade away.

Guess we won’t know for a year. :)

Fun Little Challenge

This is a fun little challenge that I tried. You buy 5 fat quarters and they send you random ones. Then you have to make them into some kind of little quilt. So here are the five fat quarters they sent and what I came up with. Then they are voted on until the end of the month, at the QuiltnBee. Finally the Top is Done

I have posted part of this quilt before but now the top is done - Yahoo. Had I known I could finish it that quick I wouldn't have hid it in the closet for all those months. :0)

This is a free prior year (2006 I think) block of the month from Block Central that I started a year or so ago and well you know how that goes. I originally started this for my husband and I. It is called "Nine Patch Nirvana" It caught my eye because when we were dating my husband used to like to listen to the band Nirvana, then the more I looked at the pattern the more I liked it. It was done in oranges and greens which seems to catch my eye too. The pattern was only 3 by 4 but I added a row to make it bigger. Then in the process of making it our oldest daughter fell in love with it. So when I told her that is was for Dad and I, my husband says what's the big deal you can make us another one. So..... This is now for our oldest daughter, as soon as I can get it quilted. I will be hand quilting it, and I don't know what design to use yet, but I guess I will figure it out.

Done with Deadlines... Back to BOM's

Well I am done with my deadlines for a while. Here is the Baby Quilt I mentioned in my last post. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to hand sew the binding to the back and sew the label on. But it is ready to go for tomorrow. I just need to get a gift bag and card and I'm set. :)

So now it's off to do dishes, take a shower and if I have time before hubby comes home to run errands I will work on a couple of my Block of the Months I've been neglecting.

PS did I mention that I made 3 fingers bleed during the course of doing this. I think I need to hold off in hand sewing for a day or two.. they are ouchy. :(

Happy Father's Day Dad

Hello,
Another one done.
My Dad's Birthday is the 3rd of July, so my husband and I try to spend his Birthday with him each year and celebrate the 4th with him. Well this year it didn't work out with time off, but we are happy that we will be able to go and spend Father's Day with him.
So since I made a nice lap quilt for my Dad's Wife, my Dear Step-Mom, I had to make him one too. :) He has a Schnauzer that is very dear to him and so this is what I came up with.

And in my traditional way I have made a matching label for the back. So Happy Fathers Day Dad.

I'm finishing up the binding on a baby quilt that will go to an expecting Mommy that is a very good friend of my youngest daughter and like a daughter to me also. I won't be here for her shower next weekend so I needed to finish it to give her on Friday. I'll have pictures of it soon too.

Project Updates

Of course too much time has passed. But I have been busy... Here are a few of the goodies I have been working on. This is a quilt I did for my Dad's Wife. She is a real sweetie and takes such good care of my Dad. Love ya Shirl. She likes bright and cheery so when a friend of mine gave me a panel that had all of these tulips on it my sister said it reminded her of Shirley. So that's all it took and I set off to create her lap quilt. One of the owners of the local quilt shop helped me find a pattern that framed panel blocks, she also helped me when I ran out of my original purchase of setting fabric that came from a store 300 miles away. Oops! So here it is, including the back with a tulip shaped label.

Next are pictures of the quilt and label I did for my Great-Grandson. He was born 3/27. Welcome Carter James. The quilt wasn't done until April, but I don't think he noticed. :).
He is so sweet and has already taken over all of our hearts. I originally picked this pattern up at last years shop hop, not knowing exactly who it would be for but it worked out great, my Granddaughter loved it and I let her pick out the fabric for it. So here's the quilt and of course I had to have a matching label on the back.

I also just finished, except for the hand stitching of the binding, another lap quilt (pictures soon) and started on another baby quilt. Not sure when I will get back to those BOM's. But that's okay. I love the sewing and it doesn't really matter which quilt or block it's on.

Tea Party Bears

Hello,

As usual too much time has passed between posts, and of course I want to promise it won't be so long again next time.... but I'm not ready to make that bet.

I wrote Shirley a note about not knowing where my time is going - and I still haven't figured it out.

I actually finished this quilt around the middle of March, for my Sister. It is the 1st Block of the Month that I ever did. (and have completely finished) It was mail ordered from Australia. Sadly the shop has closed, they had some really cute stuff.

This was my first attempt at machine quilting (other than practice or stitch in the ditch and cross hatching). I did some stippling or meandering (I get them confused). I'm sure I still need lots of practice. I played froggy on one of the blocks 3 times before it was okay. Have you ever ripped out stippling? It's not something I would choose to do in life. :) But my Sis is not a quilt judge and was very touched and pleased that I spent so much time on it and wanted her to have it, so that's all that counts.

This is the Back of the quilt and a closeup of the label. I thought why does a label have to be square? So I made it to match the theme on the front. :)

Well I guess I better go finish my great grandson's quilt so I will have more pictures to post.

Winter Time Mini Quilt Swap

Well that tine went quick and with spring around the corner I guess it is time that the "Winter Mini Quilts" get done.

Today is the deadline for shipping them off and so my little mini gets a new home. But these are secret swaps so I can't say where it is going yet.

I am still working on my Granddaughters Baby Quilt and I am finishing up a Lap Quilt for my Sister. Sew (ha ha) I will get them done and then post pictures of them as well.

After I get those two done, I have two more baby quilts to get done. One is due at the 1st of next month, I have the pattern and material picked out for it. The other is having a girl, which I just found out, and now I can start planning hers. She is due somewhere at the end of June. I also have a couple of Lap quilts I would like to get done by the end of June for my Dad and Step-Mom, but that may not happen.

And if that's not enough, I have also been working on way too many BOM's and trying to catch them up. But as long as I have a needle and thread I'm okay with whatever I am sewing.

Here is a baby quilt that I did for a couple from our church that is having their 1st child a little girl. Welcome Baby girl Fuller. I have one for my granddaughter who is due in April but her shower is the 20th of this month. And then another baby that is due in April. So more projects to do. Yahoo! :)

This is panel that I got and did for Christmas.. I love it and don't want to take it down, but I will soon.

I am not sure why all of this is underlined and don't know how to get it to stop. Oh well Here was another project I finished, last month.

Some Projects getting done

Hope you are all doing well, I haven't had a lot of blog time lately but hope to get more in.

It is so nice to know that I am getting some stuff done. I have way more to go but I will post a few here and there to let you see my progress.

This is a table runner I whipped up for a friend that came to visit last month. (Jan) where does the time go. She loves did I say Loves her cats.

As you can see I put up the banner for the Winter Swap. So along with my 3 Baby Quilts that are due this weekend, Feb 20th and April 4th, I'm doing a swap too. Oh well I must love it cause I keep doing it.

New Year Planning

Hello everyone -
Well as a lot of you I'm sure we are reflecting on 2009 and planning what to do and not do in the new year....

Well I sat down and made a list of what I have for BOM's, WIP's, UFO's and new projects that I want to do. Then you know as the year goes along, someone will be having a baby and someone will need a housewarming table runner or something and of course you do the swaps and contests and sometimes it's fun to do a thing or two for your own house. AhHa! Now I know why I feel like a chicken with it's head cut off sometimes. :) And I now know why I haven't had much time to post on any of my blogs. I currently have a dozen or so projects in varying stages of being done. Two maybe three of which I am hoping to complete this weekend. Then I have another 6-10 that are planned, material matched with pattern, ready to go, and of course, thoughts of things I want to do. This of course is just my quilting stuff. I also have a few cross stitch, embroidery and crochet things that need to be finished.

So I guess it is easy to figure out what my resolutions or plans for the new year will be.

You're so smart... You guessed on the 1st try... Yes my plan - or resolution is to finish what I've started.

As another part of my plans for the next year I want to get back to posting a little more again. So if I keep up with that, you will be able to see what I do and don't get done.

As a recap I have to say that I did accomplish a lot this last year, I finished the hand quilted queen quilt for my granddaughter (that is now having a baby of her own - new baby quilt coming) 4 baby quilts, 20 pot holders, 10 ornaments, 5 wall hangings, 3/4 of the top of a King size quilt, 2/3s of a quilt as you go King Size Quilt, (it was almost done then I decided to go for a King instead of a double) a twin quilt that just needs to be quilted, and some table runners and place mats. This does not include blocks for swaps and charity blocks I did or some of the things I have started and not gotten very far on or the hand piecing items I am doing. I also have several BOM's that are ongoing and in various stages, one of which has ended and I am almost done with the top.

So I guess I wasn't sluffing off after all, I may just need to channel and focus a little to finish these things up.

So to all my quilting buddies out there... I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I pray that you have a prosperous and blessed New Year. (With lots of time to quilt!)

Quickie Update

Well I don't have any pictures right now but I am trying to finish a BOM from 2008 that I started for my sister.
She is coming for a visit Thursday. Yikes!!!! No really it's okay I only have a little more quilting to go and the binding. She will be here a week so while we are visiting I will finish the binding. So yes I am hoping to get the quilting done before she gets here. ha ha ha ha ha
And if that's not enough with the other things I am doing - I signed up for new things, (I'm not saying how many (four) opps did that slip out) and yes I'm questioning my reasoning.
I know what my New Years Resolution will be this year. Who would have thought I person could have so many "Works in Progress" at one time. :)

Well I better go get some rest I think I've got a lot to do.

Ethan's Quilt

Along with 40 new projects I have started I actually am getting one finished. I only need to hand sew the back of the binding on this and put on my label. This is for a long time family friends first Grand Baby.
I got the pictures from a kids book and then made them into appliques.

Now off to do something on one of my other projects.

Summer Mini Quilt Swap

I am having so much fun with these mini quilts. One of the things I picked up on my shop hop was a mini quilt, and now there is a new swap. Yahoo! Here are the guidelines in case you are interested. :) And I believe you can click on the Icon here and in my side bar to sign up.

Guidelines

Make a Summer-inspired mini quilt to send to your partner. It can be pieced, appliqued, or both. The choice is yours. However, if your partner entered any preferences when they registered for the swap, this information will be sent to you.

Minimum size is 12″x12″ and the maximum size is 24″x24″, any size or shape in between. Don’t forget to include to add a label to your quilt.

It’s a mystery swap, so please don’t tell your partner who you are in advance, but go ahead and post pictures of your progress on your blog and on the Flickr group.

When you’ve mailed your quilt, send me an email with your name and your partner’s name, so that I may keep track of the progress.

Registration closes July 6th. Partner information will be sent by July 10th. The deadline to mail your mini quilt is September 21st.

So if it sounds like fun and you have some time, join in.

Shop Hop Results - Day One

I titled this day one because the hop lasts for two weeks, and I have some more stores to get to. I made it to 10 out of the 34 stores so I guess I will have to do more shopping. Oh do I have to? :)

To the left -hard to see but there is a Mini Quilt kit that I am really excited about. I might need a little help it uses English paper piecing and I understand most of the instructions except when I fold my 1/4" over baste around the paper do I sew through the paper to baste? If some one knows that would be great. Then next to it is a pattern for an embroidered snowman pillow and some tea towels, they are for my Sis, just cuz I love her. :)

This picture is the rest of my goodies, I am not goodies.
I am making a black and purple quilt for my DH and I and that roll of fabric is a 6yd cut at 50% off. Yahoo - how great is that. The package top left is a cute little runner, then a pattern that was adorable for whenever, to the right of that was another cute pattern. The fish pattern is for my Dad. It will be a wall hanging. I have been wanting to learn how to do landscapes and pictures so here goes. :) The navy material is for the nickel quilt that I am making with the blocks I exchanged with all my buddies at Quilt with us.

I drove 327 miles in about 11.5 hrs. I wanted to make it to 12 stores, and made it to 10. I went to an extra store I hadn't planned to, and ran out of time, but I got all the out of area ones on this day's list. The next on my list was closed. But it is in the area so I can still reach it.

Below are the blocks that we get for free from each shop. The green block on the far left bottom is the theme material and each shop designs a block using that material somewhere in their block. It is very interesting to see all the different ideas they come up with. Some have the pictures on the front and some don't.

Here a picture of one of the blocks that was displayed. I took my camera and was going to take pictures of all the blocks and stores... ya right that lasted about 2 seconds.

Well it was a very fun day, all in all and now I have even more goodies to play with. (Like I was running out)!

Shop Hop - Road Trip

Well I am doing my 1st ever official shop hop. Yahoo! It is a thing called "Sew Oregon" and there are about 35 stores participating. It only last for 2 weeks so I have to be quick. I am taking all day today to head down I-5 and hit all the stores that I can. Each store gives you a block and a pattern and stamps your passport. Then for each 10 stores you get a stamp from you get entered into a drawing. I'm going to all the far away ones today and figure I can visit the local ones during the week. Then next weekend we are going to my Dad's on the southern Oregon coast so I think I'll be able to hit a couple on the way home from there. (Awe shucks to I have to) :) The grand prize is a very nice Bernina Sewing machine, then they have a quilting retreat and some other stuff. (I really just am excited about shopping) :) I better go get showered and on the road, I have my route all planned out, get to furthest one by the time it opens then work my way back home. I'll post later to let you know what goodies I find and how many shops I get to.

Mini Quilt Swap

Hi Everyone,
Well Saturday was the day we were to mail our Quilts out to our secret person so I was at the post office before it opened and waited to get mine in the mail.
Then to my surprise when my Hubby went out and got our mail - my quilt was already here. Yeah!!! Here is a picture of the Mini Quilt I got from the swap. Isn't it neat?

The pinwheels are 3-D, and she hand quilted it. Thanks again Sara!

Spring Blooms Mini Quilt Swap

Well it is almost done. I just need to finish the binding and ship it off. I had a little hold up with a cut finger but I'm not letting that hold me back for long. My days over are done and am returning to work, but am looking forward to a long weekend again.

This is a Block of the month that I am doing online.

Some of these are repeat pictures, but I'm trying to get them all on this site. Eventually maybe in a slide show. On the left is a table runner I did for my Sister. On the right is a baby quilt for my friends son's baby "Taylor Marie".

The above blocks are part of a class I am taking right now that is a quilt as you go. It's been really fun.

Below is a quilt for my youngest Grandson. It has Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and the rest in the middle of the sqares.

Below are some 12 1/2 blocks I did for a charity event for children with a missing parent. They have all sorts of Scooby Doo pictures.

The aboves are for a friends Son and Wife who had twins.

Below is the King size quilt that is in the process..... for my oldest daughter. (Please ignore the stripes)
