Judy Fall Retreat 2019 Day 2

Day 2 of Retreat 1 - I was able to finish the 2 other charity quilt tops of the 3 3 yard quilts that we cut out.
Here
is #2 of 3

And here is  #3 of 3

Our friend Gloria was unable to come to the retreat, she is helping her son in CA, whom is battling cancer right now.  Prayer to them all. Anyway she wanted pictures of what all we were doing so every time someone finished I sent her a photo
Here are #4 and 5 of the quilt tops Cheryl got done.

Here is quilt top Susan George did.  She one of our retreat friends from Lake Havasu City.

This of two that Beverly is doing.  Same pattern and feature fabric one is using pink and the other a soft green.

Here is the 6th top that Cheryl got done -

This was right after our Linner as our retreat/camp host calls it.  It was Judy's Birthday and her sister gave her presents.  I came back to my seat and took this picture.
After I finished my 3 charity quilts, I started on the HST for the UFO quilt, that is also what I will work on today.
Today - Day 3 will be short.  Cheryl and I go in early and sew with our Havasu friend Mindy. They will serve breakfast around 8:30. After that and especially around 11 when check out time is for the hotel people start packing up and getting ready to go. Cheryl and I hang out, possibly pack up and then work on hand stitching until we see most people leaving, then we pack up too.
Nice thing is we only have 4 days and it will start up again.  Same room, very similar meals and seating, but some new people - but all fun.
Have a Blessed Day!

Retreat 1 Day 1

Okay I don't know if I'll actually post each day of each of the 3 retreats but we'll start here.  Retreat 1 Day 1 I finished one quilt top.  The pattern is Town Square out of the 3 yard Quilt book.
Here are the 3 that my friend Cheryl finished.

Here is a quilt top that our friend Susie H. finished.  This was a quilt pattern that was offered at the retreat we went to in August.
We're all having lots of fun and laughing a lot.  These 3 yard quilts actually do go really fast - I'll let you know how much we each get done today.  After the other two that I have are done, I have the 640 HST I am doing... well see how that goes.
Have a Blessed Day!

Paying it forward

Every year one of the guilds I belong to makes little Christmas stockings for Charity and the Angel Tree at one of our hospitals.  Well my snowbird Sister won't be here until 3 days after they are due, my friend Gloria is out of town with her son who is in the hospital and my other friend Cheryl just left town for her annual visit to see her son and grandsons. Since none of them will be here this month for the charity sew and since I didn't want to pack up my machine and take on Friday, I did 3 each (which is what they requested) for the 4 of us.

I have one more that I made last year that needed to be fixed, I think I'll get it fixed and then there will be a bakers dozen.
While I was doing that I put on a pot of soup and it is done so I'm enjoying a bowl that.  Hubby has a doctors appointment so we'll do that this afternoon. If I have any more time in the sewing room I'll get this mess cleaned up and next up I will be doing cutting.  I need to make some bindings and also start  cutting out circles for some fabric bowls we are going to give out at the retreat.
Have a Blessed day!

Charity Bears and More

Tonight is the last guild meeting for the season for the small guild I belong to - SNR  aka Stitch N Rippits.  So I thought I'd try and finish up the little charity quilt that I brought home to quilt a couple weeks ago.  And it actually went really quick.
Hard to see unless you zoom, but I put a couple clouds in the sky, did texture in the ground, echo'd in tan and green area and loops in the blue squares.
So once I was done with that I thought I would start in on the lap quilt I want to make for my first Mother in law.  She said she likes pastels.  It went together quickly so I got it pinned ready to quilt.
Then I did the remaining side left of the hand stitching of binding on the flag quilt for my Daughter in law. It's a lot bigger than I intended it to be so had a hard time figuring out where to hang for a picture.
That was it for last night.  Today I'm working on a fabric and fleece throw for my grandson in law and then a pillowcase dress for my Great Granddaughter.  Tonight's the meeting so I think that will be enough for today but if I still have time I'll pin another quilt.
Have a Blessed day!

Day on Day off

After I got the quilting done on the flag quilt on Monday -
and after dinner, I cut and sewed the binding on.  I didn't get a picture of that, but I will once the binding is hand sewn.  I need to find a better place to hang quilts to take pictures of them.
Tuesday I was on fire.  I did some house cleaning, then I pin basted 4 quilts so that I had them ready to go.  (Even started quilting.  :)
Next up on the quilting schedule - Carter's Minecraft quilt.
Then my Bag Ladies.

This one is a charity one that I brought home from the cottage.

And my Bee Quilt.

Then I plugged in my headphones and started in on Minecraft.  Since it's pixel squares I am mostly doing stitch in the ditch and a little echo quilting on it.  I got about 3/4 of it done before I stopped on Tuesday.
Wednesday - well that was another story.  As if it wasn't bad enough to have a bruised tailbone that I'm dealing with, I fell and hit my head and bruised my ribs so Wednesday was a day off. I laid on the couch all day, and watched NCIS reruns.  So day on fire Tuesday - day off on Wednesday.  Today, yes still sore, I'm going to see if I can do a little more quilting on the Minecraft quilt, if not maybe some hand stitching on binding. I'll let you know how I do.
Have a blessed day!

Two done

Little bit by little bit I'm getting stuff done.
This is a small quilt that I thought would give me a little free motion quilting practice before tackling some of the larger quilts I want/need to get done.
I call it the golf quilt because it has little golf ball faces in it.
I just did some meandering and loops.  It will be a charity quilt.
Sunday we headed to Vegas again, this time to pick up our oldest daughter and son in law.  They are getting pretty serious about moving here. This visit they are checking apartments they may want to move to at least until they get established and buy another home, and looking at job listings.
But let me back up a little -  Friday after I sewed at the cottage I was able to get in and get my hair trimmed.  I haven't personally been to this lady but know her and know several people that have gone to her.  So.... I called Friday morning and she was able to get me in.  Yay!  And she did what I asked her to do with my bangs... I'm very happy.
All of that to say I had hubby take a picture of me since I was dressed up to go get the kids and my hair turned out good.
Today we are going to the gym - then we'll hook up with the kids a little later.  Not sure if I'll have any sewing time - but if I do I'll let you know.
Have a Blessed day!

Playing Catch Up

The last couple of weeks have been a foggy blur... I was battling allergies really bad at the B.A.D. retreat and I think it ended up turning into a full blown cold.  I just couldn't kick it.  I took a whole week here at home, not sewing,  just laying low and not doing much but my annual physical and lots of cooking.  More about that later.
The 15th was Charity day.  Cheryl, Gloria, Randi and I sewed strip after strip together and then I would cut them into 9 1/2" blocks.  We got 40+ blocks done and then Cheryl and Gloria got them sewn together.   Since then Cheryl got it quilted and another strip quilt she did on her own and then turned into the Cottage for SNR guild. The diagonal one is the one she did on her own the wonky one it the joint effort.

On the 16th I went to Lake Havasu City for a mini quilt show for Nation Quilt Day with some of my friends, then to lunch. I didn't take many pictures but these two were neat.
A close up of the bottom one...
It's a technique where you sprinkle crumbs of scraps on the background and as in this one lay the tree's in, then you lay tulle over the top to hold it in and then quilt it to hold it all in place.
Some day, I'd like to try this technique ... Some day.
Okay now about the cooking.
I had to go in for my annual checkup.  First I have to show a couple of pictures, my Dr. does metal art in his spare time to relax... I love it.
Well my cholesterol was up a year ago so starting taking some medication, then I got it down by eating better and taking medicine, but not far enough so kept taking meds.  Then I ate really bad for a couple of months and boy oh boy stinking little blood test was such a tattle tale.  It's back up again.  Dang.  So I still need to drop a few pounds and I need to quit eating all the bad food and fast food.  So I've been researching low carb, low fat, low cholesterol recipes.  I can do lots of grilled chicken salads but my dear hubby gets bored with food fairly easily so I need to keep it interesting.  I have tried 10+ recipes so far that hubby say can be repeats.  I'm even making things with coconut flour and almond flour.  What the what?  :)
I have a few pictures but not all of them - Chicken Zucchini and Tomato
 Beans, Zucchini Fritter and Eggs.
 Baked Turkey
 Meatloaf and Roasted Veggies.
Coconut Flour Pizza (yes it's a do over - different toppings)

I also tried Pork Rind Chicken, (pork rinds have no carbs) and Cauliflower Potato salad, and Copy Cat Chipolte Burrito Bowl.   They were yummy.  I'll take a picture next time.
I'll keep you posted on new items I try and how it's going. I'm going to post on the next retreat in the next post - Until then, Have a Blessed day.

Zippy Fidgets

Each of the quilting guilds, has a variety of items they work on for charity.  I try to get at least one lap size quilt done for each guild per year and then keep up with the monthly projects that we do for the senior centers and adult care facilities.  Usually these projects are different for both guilds but I was happy to hear both guilds mention they needed more "Fidget Mats" for the Alzheimer care facility.
I like to put zippers on them - but I thought it would be fun to make a little pocket for them to reach into or place a little treasure.

I grabbed some fleece from the guild garage sale to make the mats, along with come coordinating fabric.

I thought the bright colors and swirls would be stimulating.
I got these prepped and ready for charity day.
After doing a couple of the mats using the fleece and material I realized it was pretty flimsy.
I did the first one with the fleece facing up.
Next I did the fleece on the back.
Either way - it was flimsy.
A couple of the other ladies were using place mats and attaching the little bobbles.  Also in the garage sale were a large stack of place mats with tags still on them. So I abandoned ship and started using them too.

It's all about textures and things they can touch or move.  Zippers, beads they can slide and bumpy stuff they can touch.
Only 3 of us were working on these and between us I believe we got about 20 done.  The others were working on "Hug" Shawls.  You do strips of fabric on one side then do fleece on the other which makes a shawl for your shoulders with little pockets for hands. We're supposed to get together again on Tuesday night to work more on the shawls.  I may help sew some strips together but I'm just not into making the whole shawl.  Hence why I opted for the fidget mats. :)  We'll see. Like to do my part but.  That was it for Friday.
Blessings,
Lynn

Guild Projects

This year for the large guild our intra guild projects are somewhat focused on small charity projects.  Things we can make and give to Senior Centers, Hospitals, Veteran Homes and the homeless.  In for this month we made some more of the homeless totes.  These have a terry cloth towel and fabric and has little pockets to hold soap, shampoo toothbrush and toothpaste.  When the stuff is out of it, it can double for a wash cloth.

Since my Sister is here and I signed her up for this guild :)  we each made two.
That was our January project.
For February to be turned in at our February meeting - our project is an Easter Pillow.  I can't remember if they are going to the Alzheimer care facility or the senior assisted living facility.  Regardless here is my pillow.
Then for the other guild SNR  we do the same thing but we call it our charity projects.  So for January we made "Chemo Port Pillows".  They are little pillows that cancer patients can attach to their seat belt so it doesn't press into the port and hurt.  On the charity sew day I set up the machine for my Sister. One lady cut the fabric pieces, I cut the velcro and pinned in place. She sewed the pillows I trimmed and turned them, another lady stuffed them and someone else sewed the opening closed.  Sis and I got 20+ sewn together.  That day from all of us we made over 50 and as of now I think we have close to 80.  I forgot to get a picture of ours but this is what they look like.
Next - we like to put labels on the quilts we donate and the lady that owns the Cottage where we sew is the one that usually makes all of them.  So I have started helping her with them I made a dozen or so a while back, those are gone and she's made more in between. So I told her I'd make some more.  Here's another 14.
The last thing is the workshop that we had at SNR it was a Valentines wall hanging.
Well - That pretty well sums up the small projects I did this month between the two guilds.
Blessings,  Lynn

Counting Days

Hello,  We have a friend named Mary that started a challenge a few years ago. She does a little bit of stitching every day.  She is up to o...
