January OMG

I like it when I can start the year with a finish.  Let's keep this momentum rolling.  Yay!
My "One Monthly Goal"  was Let it Snow that was a free block of the month from Buttermilk Basin in 2016.  So yes my finish is also getting a UFO off the list too.  Whoot Whoot.  

I had a lot of fun with this and not sure if I'm keeping or giving away - but it's finished.

Wooly Snow

In between Christmas and the New Year,  I personally get excited with all the wonderment of what the new year will bring.  I try to figure out what all I will be able to accomplish.  It also makes me want to wrap up a few things from this year.  So in my efforts of finishing monthly goals and some things started in 2016.  Here is my Buttermilk Basin BOM that was put on this last summer.  It still needs to have the last couple blocks on the right side top stitched and then I will put a small border around it.  The pattern had trees across the bottom, I don't think I will do that. 

Below is one of my monthly goals - It's a Table topper that I'm helping making for my Sister.  We have decided that she makes a good "Sous Quilter".   She cuts, Irons and clips threads while I sew and quilt.  :)  I was able to finish the top, sandwich it and get it 90% quilted.  I just need to finish the border.  

Today I have some appointments in the afternoon, however before I leave I want to finish the quilting in the border, trim and get the binding on.  I'll let you know how I do.

July Progress and August Goals

Well How did I do? 

July Goals

I was on Vacation - can you call it that when you are retired?  Anyway I was gone 12 days almost half a month and it does show a little in my progress this month.  :)

1.  Make another Scavenger Hunt Block.  July's Clues were:  Flip Flops, Thimble and Polka Dots. I have all kinds of Polka Dot fabric and a couple different pieces of flip flop fabric so I'll have to see what I can come up with.   Complete 

2.  Buttermilk Basin BOM -   Finish the S Block and Prep the N Block when it comes out.  Complete

 

3.  Bee-Utiful BOW.  At 2 blocks a week that means I will be getting blocks 6-15 there are 5 Friday's this month.  Since I will be gone for two of those Fridays, I fear I'll be getting behind.  So I will say that out of 10 possible blocks I need to have 6 of the 10 blocks done and the rest prepped.  (Yikes) 

*** UPDATE***  I was wrong about the release of the blocks on the Bee-Utiful BOW - they are released 2 per every 8 days.   So this will work so that there are only 8 blocks this month.   Updated Goal - all Blocks Prepped and 6 completed.

(I traced the wrong sheet so I now have it in two sizes.  I will use the small one to do a pillow or something.)

5.  UFO Buster # 4   It ends up being the Christmas Quilt again.    :)   

Beginning Status:   

 As always the goal is to make progress.     Complete.  

My Progress on this quilt this month really mostly consisted of prepping new blocks. But they will be ready to pick up next time I work on it so that is good and yes I did make progress.  

6.  Binding.  I've done good on my quilting goals - now I need to get all of the hand sewing of the binding done.  With all these BOW and BOM's I now have lots and lots of hand work.  Train Quilt, Bee Hive Wall Hanging, and Charity Quilt binding needs to be finished.

The month was very busy with our travels - but oh so fun.  So happy to spend the wonderful time with our family and friends. 

And now it is time to do some planning for our next month.  

August Goals

1.  Scavenger Block(s):

August - Something Plaid - Spool of Thread - Hankercheif 

September - Appple - Roman Numeral 9 - Dragon Fly

October - Zig Zag - Acorn - Sewing Notion or Tool 

Goal:  Do the August Block.  Bonus Points if I do more.

2.  Buttermilk Basin:  Finish "N" Block and Prep "O" Block when it comes out. 

3.  Bee-Utiful QAL - 

I have 6 blocks prepped that need to be stitched - Pictured above.  

 There will be 7 new blocks that come out in August.  

      Goal: Prep blocks 14-20 and have 6 blocks stitched. 

4.  Farmhouse Threads  "Harvest Mystery"  I have blocks 1 and 2 completed -Pictured above. I have blocks 3-7 Prepped - Pictured Above.  There will be 4 more blocks in August.  

      Goal: Prep the 4 new blocks.  

5.  APQ UFO Buster # 6 - Wool Crazy and Wool Ark Crazy

Beginning Status - 

There is still so much to work on here.  The stitching between the blocks, around the appliques and more appliques added.   

Wool Ark Crazy - I have all the background put together.  The next step will be to do the crazy stitches around each block and then start adding the animals - 2 x 2.  

                   Goal:  Make Progress 

 6.  Peaceful Holiday - Pictured Above - Goal:  Finish the top! 

Since #6 is my major priority I am trying to keep the rest of my list a little on the lighter side. Once I get the top done I will concentrate on catching up all the other blocks.

3 Finishes

It's always so fun to have finishes - and the fact that I could wrap up 3 things in one day even though they were each just a block, was wonderful.

Then I finished Block  6 "Bee Sweet" of the Bee-Utiful QAL

Then I finished off  Block 7 "Bee Charming"  again of the Bee-Utiful QAL.

I finished the 2nd block in the Farmhouse Threads Mystery BOW. 

Then I started my "S" Block for Buttermilk Basin's Mystery "Let it Snow"  BOM.  

It was a productive day!

Today I want to work on my scavenger block for our SNR guild.  It needs to include "Flip Flops - Thimble - and Polka Dots".    And then I really need to work on the binding of the 2 quilts I quilted and the wall hanging I finished.

Weeks recap and update

Having fun and getting stuff done.  Feels good I tell ya.  :)    Okay so the thing I've been working on the most is the train quilt and .... you'll have to read on to see if it's done.  ha ha.

Okay - when I left off I had started some of the inside of the train quit then we left for Vegas and then relaxed for a couple of days and then back at it.

Friday the 11th - I worked on my Christmas quilt and was able to finish the Santa Block

Then I worked on the Bell Block -

And then the Sleigh Block

After I got home I printed out and prepped the 1st Block in a new Quilt A Long over at Moda.  Called Bee-Utiful QAL.   Here is their first block:

Then on Saturday the 11th I worked more on quilting of the train quilt.  I got all of the inside done.  Now to do the borders.  That will include the lettering and to quilt a train track.

Sunday the 12th -
I laid it out and stared at it off and on Saturday evening and all the sudden I realize I had quilted clouds in an area that I thought was sky.... but it wasn't.

So I took that out and re-quilted that area in a different way.

After that I worked on the letter and I got about 1/2  of the borders done just a little more to go.

Monday the 13th:  Continued working on quilting I finished the lettering made tracks and quilted the wheels on the trains.

Tuesday the 14th: I had the guild meeting so had to do some paperwork for that and then finished the quilting of the train quilt and got the binding on. :)    Ya - Just in time for Show N Tell at the meeting.

Wednesday the 15th:   Well I've been looking for a hunk of material that a friend gave me and needs a piece of it back. It's red and white check with Ants on it.  I thought I knew where I put it, in a bin - but no I just can find.  So as I keep looking I start cleaning up this and that and organizing.  Then I organize my wool that I meant to do a couple of weeks ago.  Then I prepped my next Buttermilk Basin Block that I thought was supposed to come out last month on the 3rd Friday - Well it came out on the first Friday of this month so not sure - but they may be sending out a 2nd one this month.  Any way here's the block.

Then I prepped a Turtle block I've been wanting to do for a while.

Then I Stitched on the T Block and the Bee Block.

Oh and I finished the embroidery that I started in April and so I put a back on it and I'm going to make a little pillow out of it.

Thursday the 16th:  I did a little more organizing - and started sorting and wrapping some of my scrap embroidery thread.  I  used to cross stitch big projects and when I would get done with one I would put the thread in this bottom bin.  And when I just need a small amount of floss for something I'll dig through here and pick out some.  (Rats nest really)

Well low and behold I started wrapping them around the little plastic cards.  It didn't make a dent.  But I would stitch a little and wrap a little - I had fun so I guess that's all that counts.
Then I got stuff ready to take to the Cottage for Friday and Saturday.  Friday is our normal sew day and it charity day.  I'm going to work on my baby quilt that I am hand quilting.  And also I want to sandwich and pin a couple of the charity tops I made so I can get them quilted.

Friday - Well I got help pinning the quilts so I did get two pinned and ready to go.  I would have gotten the 3rd one done but I forgot the backing. Then I was just going to use some other backing from the charity closet but we ran out of my basting pins. So that's okay it will take a little while to do these two anyway.  After that I worked on the hand quilting of the baby quilt.

Saturday  - Well today is the 3rd Saturday that we used get together and have  a potluck and sew at the quilt shop. Well since the shop isn't close by anymore we are gathering at the Cottage.  It was great fun.  I made a pillowcase to go with the train quilt.

Then I worked on a wall hanging for my friend and neighbor.  She loves Bee's and Beehives and dragonflies..

That was it. I just need to put the binding on and then It will be done.  Then I'll need to have a binding party to hand sew the binding on it and the train quilt so they are completely done.  I'll be home for the next few days and there is an ecessive heat advisory so I guess that means I'll need to stay in and play with my quilting.  Ah Shucks.  :)
