To Be Quilted

I was visiting with one of my friends this morning and we were discussing how many Quilt Tops we have that need to be quilted. She was saying Lynn - I want you to ask me every month and make sure I quilt at least one quilt a month I've got to get these done.  Well you know what - me too.  But I'm sure I have double what she has that needs to be done, because she's fairly on the ball.  So that got me to thinking - I should make a post of what I have that needs to be quilted and then I can refer back to this post to keep me focused.    So as of today this is what needs to be quilted.

Claudia's Table Topper
Quilt as you go - Should already be done right?   LOL  ha ha

But getting there.  Just needs two more rows and the border/binding.

Artsy Tartsy

Artsy Tartsy - you thought I was going to say something else didn't you.  :)   I am revisiting some of my Art Quilts to link to Tuesday's Archives with Val

Here are my Black Birds - This was a class my friend taught.  It was a great class learning how to mix textures.  It has wire, cloth and paint.

These are my Dragon Flies - This was a class where we learned to use inks and mix with gel to paint on the fabric and then quilt around it.

This is the quilt that I painted using the techniques I learned in the dragon fly class. It was for an auction to raise money for awareness for sex trafficking in Kolkata India.

Here are my Sea Turtles that I made and quilted and am entering in our quilt show next month. I am actually going to have it judged, so I'll have to let you know how I do.

It was fun looking back on my Art quilts.  I have a few more I'm working but I'll save them for another day.
Have a Blessed day!

Ornaments, Dolls and Trains

It's so easy to let a few days sneak by.  Okay where did I leave off... I had to go check, that's the problem with waiting to post then I loose where I'm at.  :)

I showed you that I got the binding on the ornaments on Tuesday morning.
Well with a little TV time on Tuesday night and Wednesday I was able to finish the hand stitching of the binding.  A goal done and a gift ready.  Yay!

Then because I was out of  hand stitching material for evenings (that's really a lie - I have tons) I had to pick which item I wanted to work on.  Well I figured this would be a good opportunity for me to work on the UFO buster goal of the month which ended up being "Folk Art Gathering".
Here is the before status picture:

I don't know if you can see it in the picture above so I'll point out a couple of things.  The crow on the left and the pineapple have letters stitched on them.  And the basket is basted but not stitched - well it's started but not done.
Okay now for what I've done so far this month.  Added the lettering and a number to the flower.

Next I finished the basket, and added the heart and then stitched the letters and more numbers.

There will be a crow overlay on the bottom right side when it's put together so that's why the numbers are up a little on the right side.
Next I worked on the letters that weren't finished.  I am whip stitching around the wool applique. Here is where it was when I started.  The "R" of Art.

It went a lot faster than I thought it would and in no time at all I was done with all the lettering.
Took a close up picture with the needle in the last "G".

So with that done I figured I needed to get the next block ready.
It's the block that will go on the far right of that row.  It's not a crow as it appears in the above picture that crow will be the over lay - it's a house.  I got it traced, cut out, wool windows fused on and started stitching the house.  By the time I ended last night, I was stitching the windows.

What else have I been working on?  Well on Friday I had my normal sewing day at the cottage.  My friend Vickie has an Accu Go Cutter and so she helped me cut out Trains for a quilt I'm making for our grandson Caleb.  His favorite colors are Blue and Orange.  Here is one of 4 sets of the train we cut out.
On the back of the cutter package they had a pattern suggestion on how to make the trains into a quilt.

I have a panel that would work for the center - so I may make it similar to the above suggestion.   Here's the panel.

To help keep it in the right color scheme, I'm thinking of cutting off the little red border - then I can add some blues and oranges, possibly in the piano key border like above. Then put the trains we cut out on a light grey background to tie it into the panel.  I have some other construction - train fabric that I originally bought to go with this.

I could put the strips I cut off of the front with it for the back or use it in a whole different quilt.  We'll see how it goes.

Along with that I got another order for a Baby Doll in a bag, she needs it by Tuesday night.  So I've been working on that - and continuing on with the other Dolls in a bag for the Quilt show Boutique.
I have 4 bags completed.  Here is the one for the order:

And here are the other 3 I have completed for the boutique.

Now when I first started working with these little dolls above - I was concerned because they are so tiny.  The bodies are only about 2 1/2" long.  But I have to say- the clothes and tiny dresses are so easy.   I have 2 more of the tiny ones to make bags and clothes for and then I have some larger dolls.

Along with my sewing projects, this is my first month as Vice President/Project Coordinator of the Stitch N Rippits guild, so I have been working to get BOM's and Project instructions ready.  We have come up a Scavenger Hunt this year in lieu of a BOM.  I think this is going to be so much fun.  Each month I will give them 3 words and they have to incorporate those 3 things into a quilt block each month.  We are going to have drawings each month you have a block you get an entry for one drawing and then if you complete your quilt you get entered into a different drawing. We think it sounds fun, hopefully our guild members will too.

Well that's it for me for now.
We're going to go visit a friend of my husbands that is in town for a couple of weeks and then do some grocery shopping?  And another friend just called and needs help with her computer so I'll stop by there on the way.
Have a Blessed day.

Levi's Quilt Revisited

I'm revisiting Levi's quilt so that I link up to Tuesday's Archives with Val

A friend of my husband found this top in his Mothers closet when she passed way.  His Sister was just going to throw it way, however Levi wanted to keep it.  He remembered his Mom and Grandma, working on it when he was a little boy around 1968 and wanted to keep it as a memento.

You can read the original post here:

When I got the quilt - it was in pretty bad shape.  It was 1/2 hand sewn and 1/2 by machine and it was not all squared and the points did not match.  I was made from all types of material, cotton, polyester, satin, linen, and there were even some pieces that were made out of something that felt similar to a Handi-wipe.

Anyway I repaired what I could with-out remaking it and did a simple cross hatch and bound it.  Although it still has flaws - and was not my choice of materials or colors - knowing the pleasure it gave them when I got it done - It's one of my favorite finishes.

Have a Blessed Day!

Ringy Dingy

One Ringy Dingy - Two Ringy Dingy!  I'm totally dating myself here but do any of you remember Lily Tomlin playing an Operator.

Okay enough of that,  I got that thought because of the project we made for Mystery Monday.  we made little cell phone cases.  We got enough material to make 3 of them but have only made 2 so far.

It has two pockets in it so you could put a couple other items in there if you just wanted to grab a couple of things and go with out hauling your purse around.  I don't know about others but my purse seems to get more heavy each time I use it.  :)

Then today I worked on my Ornament wall hangings.
Here's how they were when I started the other night

I finished the the blanket stitch around them all and the embroidery for the tree limbs last night.
Today - I got the metallic hanger on.

Then I sewed the decorative button on the top of the ornaments, made hanging sleeves for each one and then sewed the binding on.

So I'm sure that while I'm sitting with hubby tonight I'll be working on that binding.  And as fun at that will be - it will be double fun to know that I will be able to check a couple things of of my January goal list.
Hope you're having a wonderful day doing what you want to do.
Blessings,
Lynn

Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie

Well is everyone getting settled into the new year yet?  It just seems like another day or days.  :)

Okay to catch up on the last couple of days -
On Friday after a nap - I finished the stitchery for the pillow I'm making for a friends birthday.  And did a little more sewing on the doll bags I started on Tuesday.

Yesterday - I went to "Strip Club" at the local quilt shop.  I intended to finish quilting the pattern "Poinsettia" from last month, but that didn't happen,  I took it anyway and showed what I had quilted so far.  The pictures were taken before I buried the threads.  I got all for squares done and part of the sashing.  I need to do the inner border and then the outer border and it will be done.  :)

Here is a picture of the quilt pattern she had for this month.  I just love the colors.  It was made using a special ruler that I actually have this time, Yeah!  But the pattern shows how to use a regular 12x12 ruler if you don't have one.  I don't need another project, but I may do this one down the road.

Then after I got home - I finished the pillow.  I made the pillow form with muslin and polyfil and then I made the pillow cover that can be taken off and washed if needed.

She is a cat lover, and loves lavender so I think she'll really like this.

Then after I finished that I got back to work on the little doll stuff.  I finished the fish bag and made a little quilt to go with it.  I didn't have anymore of the fish fabric so I couldn't make my regular quilt I make for the bags, so I picked out colors that matched the fish and made this one.

I'm having trouble getting the little baby dolls I normally use for my doll bags.  My Sister got me some little dolls - actually tiny dolls.  :)  and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make little clothes for them.  But I wanted to at least give it a try.   I took off the little dress it had on which is the blue one and viola -  I was able to make a "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie"  dress - the one in pink.
Which now gives me some ideas for how to make a dress for some larger dolls I got.  Hmmm good things can come from small packages after all.  :)

Okay well that's all I got done yesterday before grocery shopping and dinner.

Today I want continue with the doll bags and make more little dresses and nighties.
And Tomorrow is Mystery Monday - We haven't had it for a couple of months so I'm looking forward to it.  I'll have to let you know what Mystery we have tomorrow.

Hope you're having a great day.
Blessings - Lynn

Welcome 2016

Good Morning and Happy New year -

We did make it up until the stroke of Midnight and a few minutes after and that was about it.  In fact I think Hubby and I are close to taking a nap right about now - because hey your body says "Hello - it's 6 am".   And since we were across the river in Nevada it was 5:30 there and 6:30 our regular time so when I did look at the clock it was only 5:30 am Nevada time.  Oh well 5 hours of sleep should be plenty - we did it when we were younger right?   Pausing to laugh really hard.

Okay short and sweet.  All People Quilts, posted their random number for the 2016 UFO Buster and it was #2.  Which on this years list is "Folk Art Gathering".  Last year when this came around I think was able to do the embroidery of the alphabet on a couple of blocks, but no major progress.  This year, my UFO busting was in the Bonus category so not sure I'll get much more done this year either.  Hmm I may have to list this one twice.  :)

Okay here is the before picture and we'll have to wait and see what the after looks like and if I was able to make progress.  I want to note that the stitching around all of the letters is not complete and that may be what I am able to work on while watching TV in the evenings with my honey.

Have a wonderful day and a very Blessed Year!

Counting Days

Hello,  We have a friend named Mary that started a challenge a few years ago. She does a little bit of stitching every day.  She is up to o...
