August New FO Challenge

Well I just realized the last time I posted was for the July New FO.  Although I have other blogs I post to and I'm on the computer all the time ... some how this blog isn't getting updated very regularly.  Oh well - guess that means I'm sewing and starting new projects, which leads me back to what this post is all about - New FO's. 

Not sure where to start - Ok so I have a pincushion swap group so here are my Pincushions that I started (and finished) for August.  The middle one went to Israel.

Then I was part of another swap that was hosted by Michelle at The Quilting Gallery.  It was a Reversible Coaster Swap.  My Partner lives in Australia.  Since I haven't traveled outside the country it's fun for me to know a piece of me gets to go to all these neat places.  Here are the coasters, front and back.

Next I have my Monthly Doll Quilt Swap - and since I know my partner has received her quilt I can show you what I made.

 







  And for a little added goodie I made a matching pincushion. 

Then, I started my next month's block of  "Daisy Day's"  by Jenny Elefantz.


Mondaisy  and Tuesdaisy are done, here is my Tuesdaisy that was part of last months New FO.

and here is Wednesdaisy. 

Not very far along on that so put the picture in so you could see what it will look like someday.  :) 
Then I got my wool banner of the month ready to do.

And for my last New FO - I started and am almost finished with this little wall hanging for a dear friend of mine in Mississippi,   (yes I say it as I type it... I-s-s-I-p-p-I)  her Birthday was this month - and I missed it. So this will go out in the mail tomorrow.

 I just have one more side to hand stitch the binding down and it should be good to go.  

Well as always, I don't realize how much I've done until I sit down to do these posts.  And there were a couple more things I started that I didn't include so I guess that explains why I felt so busy.

July - NewFO Challenge

Well July went as fast as June, It's amazing how fast the weeks go by especially when you have projects you want to finish and projects that you start.  For me I'm doing really good at the starting, hence why the NewFO  is a wonderful thing.

  So I made pincushions for my pincushion group swap.  I made a couple of extra as extra gifts to a couple of ladies that needed a little something extra.
They are made out of wool, Blanket Stitched and filled with walnut shells and a little bit of poly fill.

Next you can probably see a Dresden Plate in the background of the picture above. Well I have been wanting to do a Dresden plate which I mentioned in a previous post and so I started a kit that I got a couple years ago.

I really don't have too much more to go on this but - as I was working on this I got one of my many quilt shop news letters and they are having a Mini Quilt Auction to benefit the victims of the OK Tornado's.  There really isn't any theme but they are holding the auction at a new Starbucks Coffee House that is opening right next to their Quilt Store.  So I started another Dresden Plate.. The one you saw part of above. Here is where I am at with it.

  The background fabric is coffee beans.  I will quilt this and send it off to TX.  So I may have a Finished something after all. 

Next last month I showed the BOM that I am doing "Daisy Days" with Jenny of Elefantz...  Well I got my 1st block "Mondaisy" finished and now I am on my second block "Tuesdaisy"  The 3rd block is out but I haven't started it yet so I guess that will be a NewFO for August.  Here are my blocks

It's hard to see in the picture but the little place mat is light pink and blue. 

Yup -  This one needs to be finished.  I'm about 1/2 way there. 



Hmm was there anything else?  Okay guess not - So lastly by not least because I really, really liked how this came out - my July Doll Quilt for the monthly Swap. 

The theme this month was stars and stripes, so this is what I came up with.  I had a little panel that had been given to me and I was hoping that when July came around my partner would like to do the theme and she did. So I cut it apart and added a few things and this is how it turned out.  I don't have many that I struggle giving away - but this would probably make the list.  It is only sweetened, knowing the lady I gave it to seems so incredibly sweet herself.

Well I think that's it for this month.  I already have at least 3 things lined up for August and it is only the 2nd.  Yikes!

Finish A Long - Q3

 

Nothing like a challenge to get you moving!

 

 

 

This is my first time of posting for the UFO finishes but boy do I need it.  I was personally challenging myself to get at least one UFO done per month, and that was going okay until April.  We moved and I'm just now getting back into the swing of things.  So without further rambling, here are my Finish A Long goals for this quarter.

 

 

1. My first one and this is a Huge one - and is dependant slightly on my friend whom I call wonder woman.  :), my quilter. It has taken me 2+ years to complete this top and now I am sending it to the quilter this weekend. If she has time to finish it by the first part of September, I will finish putting the buttons for eyes on and then bind it.  This will be a huge finish. This quilt is "Sweet Land of Liberty" by Cheri Saffiote Payne - with some modifications and exchanges of a few blocks here and there.  I learned in this BOM and from my fellow quilters in this class - it's okay to not follow the pattern to a tee. 

 

2. This is a little wall hanging that I actually just started last week.  I have been wanting to try out a Dresden plate and this kit was something I picked up a couple of years ago. I thought this would be a nice way to try out Dresden plates, before I committed to yet another big quilt. I will need to finish the embroidery and then quilt and bind. 

3. This one is done and sandwiched.  Just needs to be quilted and bound.  Then I can put the button on for his eye. This is done with hand dyed wool (no I didn't hand dye) and backed with flannel. 

 

4. This one just needs the binding finished.  amazing how we can get side tracked and derailed with such a little amount left to do. 

 

 

5. This is  another wall hanging. It is a hand sewn quilt project that uses the double stitch method.  I started this several years ago, on one of our driving vacations to AZ.  Hubby drove and I stitched. I need to finish the embroidery then quilt and bind.   

 

6. And if I'm really as ambitious as I think I am I will quilt and bind this fall wall hanging.  I made this a couple of year ago and off in a pile of UFO's it went. 

 



 

So 3 Months - 6 projects that don't have too much to go on them.We will see how far I get.  If this works well I may have all my UFO's done in ### years.    (Wink)

New FO's - Where did June go.....?

Hello - Here are my contributions to the NewFO Challenge:

June was going along fine and then all the sudden - Poof   It's July.  I am really really good at NewFO's but have never shared about them.  I really enjoy Barbara's many posts about NewFO's and Finishes (which I'm trying to do) and goal setting so I think I'll follow along on some of these and see if I can get a little more finished.  After all when someones watching it makes you a little more accountable right.  :) 

So What all did I do..  My June Doll Quilt for my Doll Quilt swap:

With a matching Pincushion

Then I am also part of a group that swaps Pincushions each month I have two swap partners for that so here are the two pincushions that I made for them.

This a pattern that I got from Kaaren Johnson of "The Painted Quilt" Blog. They have coordinating fabric on the back.  I also made a 3rd one in lime green that I backed with a muted lime green wool.

I also started this candle mat - The fish actually needed to be hand dyed to make the dual color in them so that was kinda fun.  I haven't started the stitching on this yet but - someday soon.

Next - this is a quilt I started and finished and now am going to work on some more.  I started it to be part of a challenge called the "Modern Mini Quilt Challenge" that is hosted by Ellison Lane.  But after I got all done I just looked off.  Well that's because it is silly.  So I will be adjusting some the corners on the appliqued quilts and then readjusting some of my quilting.  (No I didn't put it in the contest)

And I also started an embroidery BOM from Jenny at Elefantz - she is an Australian designer and I really like her stuff. It is called Daisy Days.

I am not quite done with Block 1 but I better hurry up because block two has already been published. I have however got it traced and ready to do. 

Well I guess that's enough for one month.  I also worked on some UFO's and a couple of other little projects that are WIP's but I'll save that for another post.  Have a blessed day.

Worth the Wait...

I'm sure most of you have heard the saying good things come to those who wait - well I will validate that.

I have had quite a few waiting incidents lately, and still have a few in the waiting cue. However  - a couple of my "waits" are over and with wonderful results. 

One of these had to do with the Doll Quilt Swap I am in.  I started in March and my first quilt swap partner had sent me a couple of messages letting me know that she would be late in sending my quilt. 
So yesterday I got home and received my March Doll Quilt   YA!   The theme for the month was "Animals"  I sent her a hand embroidered Cat in a hat box surrounded by 1930 repo fabric.  This is what I sent her.

And yesterday I got this adorable Doggie quilt.

With a Bone Label. 

So yes good things come to those who wait. :0).

The second "Good things come to those who wait"....

I was part of a swap called "Dreaming of Spring" mini quilt swap hosted by Michelle over at the Quilting Gallery.  Well my quilt swap partner on that is located in Austria.

This is the little quilt I sent.

 I sent the quilt out by the deadline on May 13 but had never heard anything from the recipient. So last night I sent her an email to see if she ever received it. Well I got an email this morning saying she had received it - "loved it and had taken it to her exhibition at the Stadtmuseum Traiskirchen and it got a nice place".  Okay so the translation is a little rough and I didn't know what that was or what it meant. But now after digging - The Stadtmuseum Traiskirchen is a Museum.  It is run by volunteers but from the sounds of it she put my little quilt into an exhibit that she has at the Museum.  WOW! 

So 2 good results from waiting!

Modern Mini Quilt Challenge

Modern Mini Quilt Challenge is finally here.  :0) 

What is a Modern Mini you ask?  Well I am not sure I, or anyone really knows - but after researching I came up with this answer. It is  just something different. Something that is either not traditional or traditional in a new way.

Well I am also in a group of ladies that swap doll quilts every month and on last months quilt I definately tried something different. The theme for the month was called "Shape Shifters" and it was doing a quilt in a shape that was not a normal quilt shape.  So I got some information from my Quilt swap partner, and went to town. (she loves cats) This was the quilt I created for her. My something new, that challenged me happens to be  "curved and inverted corner" binding.

 This is Called "Three Cats Ranch"

And here is a close up of the kitties.

April Still had UFO's

Hello- 

Well April still has UFO's - because I didn't finish one.  :(  But I did have a very busy month and I did accomplish a lot of things including a little sewing. 

1st off we finally sold our home - yahoo!  So this meant more sorting, boxing, tossing  Whew - oh ya and then unpack....  And I don't know about anybody else but after staying in one home for 15+ years - even as good as we were about not having a lot of clutter - we had clutter. :) It has been a blessing all the way - but there was still lots of work and arrangements to coordinate. We've been in our new place for about a month now and I just now feel like we are starting to get back into routines (new ones :) )

Okay so on to the sewing stuff -  I made a mini quilt for my Doll Quilt Swap partner - She likes brights and polka dots and Kaffe Fassett material oh and paper piecing... So trying to fit most all of that in - here is the mini quilt I made her: 

She said she really liked it and already has it hung up on her wall. 

Next I am part of a group that swaps pincushions.  This month (April) I  had 3 in my group and this what I made.  Then of course I like to send goodies with my quilt swaps so I made the additional pincushion and little dolly to go with the mini quilt above.

So as you can see - I wasn't totally slacking.

The first couple of weeks of May have been a blurr -  My sweet hubby and I have been trying to get back in the grove of things.  I have however made a mini Quilt for a swap from the Quilting Gallery called "Dreaming of Spring" and I did get it in the mail by the deadline.  It is going to Austria.  :)

This is what I did and I even did a little free motion quilting on it.  I really need practice.  I have signed up for Leah Day's class on Craftsy but haven't had time to do any of it.  Maybe soon. 

I have also started a quilt for my May Doll Quilt Monthly partner.  No pictures yet on that, don't want to spoil the surprise. 

Well hope everyone is enjoying the month and whatever sewing projects they are working on.
