Havasu Quilt Show 2019

November first and I started it off on the go.  A few of us got together and drove down to Lake Havasu City to go to their Bi-Annual Quilt Show.  I have to say there were some super duper quilts.  I only took a few pictures and I did not get the details recorded of who made them. *Sorry* But I know a lot of these ladies and the ladies that quilt them so I wasn't as concerned with that.  And since my friend Cheryl and I just did two different retreats with people mostly from Havasu, we were all like "Hey There, I know you"  because we just saw them. :) 
Here are just a few that caught my eye.  
This one are blocks of machine embroidery of cute sea animals, but click on it and see if you can see the quilting on the borders.  That is really cute too.  

 I really like the hot air balloons, and haven't had a lot of luck getting to see them in person.  It has rained  or been too windy each time we try, but this quilt with London Bridge behind is really neat.  

 Because I love everything Christmas - this was cute.

After the quilt show we went to lunch at Shugrues.  Funny we are about 3/4 done with our lunch and our friends from our own guild that we saw at the show - walk into the restaurant.  What are the chances.  Anyway after we're done Jean's Sister Carol hadn't been to Lake Havasu City for many many years even before the London Bridge had been reconstructed so we wanted to take pictures.

Then this one is because they tell me to go over so they can take a picture of me and then they walk away so I'm like - so I don't have any friends in my pictures.  :)

 We had a fun day.  Nice hanging out with good friends.  We went to a quilt shop after this and then home.  I didn't find anything I wanted.  And so my only purchase (other than lunch) was a panel I got at the show.  I want to do an attic window quilt with it.

Tomorrow I will be gearing up for the 3rd retreat.  It starts Sunday morning.  I won't have to do much cooking hubby still has food in the freezer, but I want to do a little cleaning.  I am staying at this one so need to pack clothes and then just make sure all my projects are together.  I also need to figure out what I want my One Monthly Goal to be and do a post for that so I can link up.

Henderson Quilt Show 2019

Finally getting some time - so playing catch up on my posts again. I'll have a few in the next couple of days. 
I went to the the Henderson quilt show, with Cheryl and Jean on Friday the 12th. We met up with our friend Patty.  She lives in Boulder City but has the cabin in Williams that Cheryl and I go to sometimes. I didn't get pictures of every quilt I liked but here a few that stood out to me. 
Our Friend Sandi is working on this quilt so I took a picture of it.

This next one could be shiny thing for me.  I really like the brightness.  But I'm being a good girl and am not starting anything new. (yet)  

The next two aren't anything I would do but thought they were pretty. 

My granddaughter loves Jack and Sally - so took a picture of this and sent to her.  She liked.  

 I have a wide palette of what I like.  I like primitive and wool applique, but I also like modern.  If I was better at free motion quilting I would probably do more of it. 

 I think this next one is a variation of Ricky Tims convergence. 

 This Zebra reminded me of one we did a few years back at Fabric Unlimited. 

 Again, not my style but the workmanship was awesome. 

 The hair on this one was very unique.

 This next one was 3 dimensional

It was a fun day we went to the show, then to lunch.  Then we went to Patty's house in Boulder City for a little bit before we headed home.

Playing Catch Up

The last couple of weeks have been a foggy blur... I was battling allergies really bad at the B.A.D. retreat and I think it ended up turning into a full blown cold.  I just couldn't kick it.  I took a whole week here at home, not sewing,  just laying low and not doing much but my annual physical and lots of cooking.  More about that later. 
The 15th was Charity day.  Cheryl, Gloria, Randi and I sewed strip after strip together and then I would cut them into 9 1/2" blocks.  We got 40+ blocks done and then Cheryl and Gloria got them sewn together.   Since then Cheryl got it quilted and another strip quilt she did on her own and then turned into the Cottage for SNR guild. The diagonal one is the one she did on her own the wonky one it the joint effort.  

On the 16th I went to Lake Havasu City for a mini quilt show for Nation Quilt Day with some of my friends, then to lunch. I didn't take many pictures but these two were neat.

It's a technique where you sprinkle crumbs of scraps on the background and as in this one lay the tree's in, then you lay tulle over the top to hold it in and then quilt it to hold it all in place.  

Some day, I'd like to try this technique ... Some day.  

Okay now about the cooking.  

I had to go in for my annual checkup.  First I have to show a couple of pictures, my Dr. does metal art in his spare time to relax... I love it.

Well my cholesterol was up a year ago so starting taking some medication, then I got it down by eating better and taking medicine, but not far enough so kept taking meds.  Then I ate really bad for a couple of months and boy oh boy stinking little blood test was such a tattle tale.  It's back up again.  Dang.  So I still need to drop a few pounds and I need to quit eating all the bad food and fast food.  So I've been researching low carb, low fat, low cholesterol recipes.  I can do lots of grilled chicken salads but my dear hubby gets bored with food fairly easily so I need to keep it interesting.  I have tried 10+ recipes so far that hubby say can be repeats.  I'm even making things with coconut flour and almond flour.  What the what?  :)

I also tried Pork Rind Chicken, (pork rinds have no carbs) and Cauliflower Potato salad, and Copy Cat Chipolte Burrito Bowl.   They were yummy.  I'll take a picture next time.

Quilt Show Boutique

Our big quilt guild - Colorado River Quilters, puts on a quilt show every other year. It takes a lot of planning and prep time to put a quilt show together and we usually prep for a year then have the show take a few months off and start prepping again.
We always have a boutique to earn money for the guild, so one of our project coordinators asked us to make pot holders this month to put in the boutique.    Here are the ones I came up with.  

The boot, hat, 2 hearts, and the one on the far right, were all made with scraps.  

The other two -

were made using a neat little technique that reminds me of the wine glass coasters. Cheryl and I are going to help Linda teach how to make them at our other guild in a February workshop.  Of course after Linda showed us how to make them  I had to come home and try it out and made a couple. So I'll give them to the boutique to sell also.

Quilt Show 2018

Colorado River Quilt Guild is hosting their next Quilt Show March 16th and 17th 2018.  They have a show every other year and this is it.  This will be the 2nd time I've been involved with the CRQ show.  Last show in 2016, I entered 2 quilts and got 2 ribbons a first and and 3rd.  This year with I wasn't sure I wanted to enter any quilts.  I have finished quilts in the last couple years but a lot of them have been given away.  However they weren't getting a lot of entries and extended the deadline to enter in hopes more people would enter - I caved.  :)  So I turned in the paper work this morning and then came home after the meeting and made labels for these two quilts.  

And this one - 

I went ahead and had them judged.  Neither of them are wonderful so I don't have visions of getting ribbons but it never hurts to get feed back on how to make things better. Guess we'll see.

Quilt Las Vegas 2017

Here are some of my photo's from visiting the Desert Quilter's of Nevada show.   

Disclaimer - I am not a professional photographer, I did not document the person or persons making these quilts.  I took these photo's for my own pleasure and for sharing my likes and admiration of other peoples talents.  
(In fact I took a picture of a quilt I liked and found out it was made by a friend of mine.)  I don't have just one genre in the quilting world. I like primitive, modern, whimsical, art quilts.  I do favor applique over traditional and I like a more cute type of primitive than hard core folk art.  

Okay -
The next couple of quits stood out to me - they are adorned with hundreds of seed beads and bling.  The time that must have taken.

I had to take a picture of this one - my Sister loves Giraffe's.

This next one is simple but striking.   One thing I noticed about a lot of the quilts on display - they had lots and lots of quilting on them.  Look at all the pebbles on this one. 

This one was just cute - however I thought it was also neat that they thought out side of the box in putting all the animal buttons on it.  

This first one was awesome with use of color and the balance of quilting to go with the flames.  So creative.  

 Not sure what this next one is supposed to be.  Probably should have read the card.  :)

When I grow up - I want to be able to Free Motion Quilt - like it is in this next quilt.  Beautiful!

These next three look so familiar, hmm I wonder why - oh ya they are shamefully UFO's in my closet.  Two of them are 1/2 done and one about 1/5. 

See what I mean about the cuter primitive.  

The next few quilts were just impressive either in quilt design, or the actual quilting on them. 

 

I love applique and do a lot of it both by hand and fusible machine.  In fact I just took a class on doing invisible machine applique. I do not have an embroidery machine that does this type of embroidery applique, however I did like this quilt. (close ups below)  Maybe because I have a few friends that love chickens.  

 Then next quilt appealed to my Art Quilting side.
 
 And for my dog loving side.  

I did take a few more photo's but this covers most of what really sparked my fancy - EXCEPT....... My bad friend took me to a bad vendor.  Which in turn caused me to be bad.  

Ha ha ha ha.  I did pick up some new patterns to do in my spare time. I just found out about this lady and I tell you her style matches a lot of what I like.  Obviously since I bought almost one of everything she had. Just kidding (I think)  *Wink*
