Month End and OMG

With the holiday's I'm getting a couple extra days off - Yay!!  So even though I didn't get a chance to work on my OMG block while on vacation in Oregon, with some of my kids, I was able to get it done.  Nice way to finish out the One Monthly Goal challenges - a finished goal.   Here is my finished block. 

I worked on it a little on last week and got it to this point - 

Then I went to my friend Cheryl's house yesterday with my Sister and other friend Gloria and worked on it more until it was all but the tree trunks done. So this morning I  did the trunks and now it's finished. 

Had a great time sewing with my buddies, I don't get much of that now that I work.   

They were working on these little zipper purses.  These are the ones Gloria (In the red) made. 

She gave me a zipper so I came home and found these fabrics to make one.  

Gloria was also wanting to make more of these tissue box holders.  I have never made any but want to.  She couldn't remember for sure how to make them so I helped her figure them out.  Now of course I want to make some for gifts.  

Well that's it for this month.  I have to work tomorrow and doubt I'll get much sewing done.

2020 A New Year to Focus

It's already the 2nd day of a new year and a new decade. Usually I finish out the previous year with a recap of all I got done, and then do a big post of what I'm hoping to do in the new year.  
My goals are always to finish stuff up.  Last year I did better than most years and I'm hoping to be even better this year.  
Okay so for UFO's I have two types - WIP/UFO's and Quilt Tops/UFO's. 
 I made a list of most of the wip/ufo's and need to decide which one to work on first. 
Also I want to to quilt and finish all my quilt top/ufo's. 
Now here are the two small hurdles that I will work around but are cluttering my thoughts a little. 
1. My machine that I quilt with needs to be fixed again - so I will have to hold off on quilting until that is done.  I'm hoping within a couple weeks.
2.  I am going to go back to work for a while - not long maybe a couple years, but that of course will cut down on my sewing time a bit. (or a lot)  
So/Sew I guess even more than ever, I want to stay focused.  I want to get ufo's done.  And as much as I like to (and I'm sure I will) start new things, I really really want to limit new stuff, to stuff I already have... patterns and kits I have in my stash.  I bought them because I liked them - so I'm telling myself "then do them". :)
It's so easy to get distracted with all the "Squirrels" and "Shiney" things... so just keep reminding me - focus, focus, focus.

August OMG Finish

Here is my One Monthly Goal - which was to top stitch the blocks of Christmas Card Quilt.  

After all the blocks were put together I needed to top stitch the stars that overlapped the borders.  

As I was ironing and stitching them I found a couple other areas I missed.  The blue on the dolly dress...

Okay now all done.  I was hoping to get the last two borders on which includes more overlapping stars... but time is running out.  I accomplished what I set out to do for the month, so now it's time o link it up to Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal . 

Now head over there and look at all the other finishes.

Top Finished OMG

My One Monthly Goal for July was to finish the top for Jean our Guild President.  Well Ta Da - 

I don't know for sure yet, but I think one of the other members will be doing the quilting of it.  I'll have to let you know on that part. And I will be linking this up to "One Monthly Goal" over at Elm Street Quilts at the end of the month. Until then happy quilting.

June OMG Finish

It has been a few months since I remembered to link up to One Monthly Goal over at Elm Street Quilts. But this month I did and I am happy that I was able to finish. 
My OMG for June was to finish this wool table mat "Summer" for my friend Cheryl. 

The pattern said to back and bind it with homespun, however I had some really nice wooly flannel and used that. It's hard to see, but I hand quilted the back to the top in between the sections to hold it in place. I even made bias binding, which I don't normally do, but it worked well. 

Now I'm going to link up to One Monthly Goal.

Bee Blocks and more.

Still working on my Bee blocks for the corner stones of my Bee-Utiful quilt.  Here's the ones that I have finished. 

I only have 11 1/2 to go.  :)  These are trimmed, now I can line them up so I know which ones I want to go where. 

A few of us did a little road trip on Saturday

We made it to 4 quilt shops and I got some really good deals on stuff I needed (not just wanted) I was able to get the Bee fabric that I'm using on the sashing for $5.00/yd so I bought enough to make the backing.

I also got binding for my Bag Ladies.  I have enough of the sashing fabric for the back by adding a small strip, but needed the binding.  Score!

It is the opposite of the sashing, here I'll show you.  

So it's perfect. 

Then I had a couple of gift certificates to the quilt shop where I used to work while they were here in Fort Mohave so I got 4.5 yards of an off white to use as backgrounds for scrap quilts.  I only got stuff a two stores and didn't find anything I had to have at the other two.  They had stuff I liked - but didn't need so I was good.

Good Start

Well today was the good start I wanted it to be.
I got the borders on Carter's quilt.

Next I pinned the golf quilt so I can brush up and practice my free motion quilting before tackling some of the other quilts.

Then I finished the Jelly Roll Jiggle.

I've also been working on my Bee cornerstones

Yes it was a good start and I hope I can keep up the momentum. Hope you had a good day too.

Hello May

The first day of a new month can be very uplifting.  I didn't feel like I got a lot done the last couple weeks of April, between my machine breaking down and just life - so I'm really looking forward to a new start.  Along with monthly items I will be working on for the guilds, charity and for retreats, I have some long term goals.  I have 12 items that I've given myself 6 months to finish.  I have way more UFO's but I'm doing this to try and keep myself focused. 
All 12 items include quilting them.  There is a table runner and 4 place mats that I'm counting as one item, another table runner that is quilt as you go and 10 tops.  Six of the tops are done, 2 have embroidery blocks that need to be finished and 2 need borders.  
Here's the line up:
Minecraft quilt for Carter - Needs borders and then quilted. 

Flag Quilt for Bri - Needs Borders, then quilted. 

Red and Tan Butterflies - Need to Quilt.

 Bag Ladies - Need to Quilt. 

Table Runner and Place Mats, need to quilt.

 Bee-Utiful Quilt - Embroider white cornerstones, add remaining sashing and borders, then quilt. 

 On Point Batik - Needs to be Quilted. 

Frog Works, Embroider a block and a half, then add borders and quilt. 

Small golf lap quilt - Needs to be quilted. 

Jelly Roll Jiggle  - Quilt as you go table runner. 

The Bears - The top is done and pinned - Needs to be quilted.

Charming Fractions - Needs to Quilted.

 And to wrap it up the On Point Frog Quilt - Needs to be quilted. 

These are my next 6 month goals.  I would love to put about 50 more things on the list - but there are a few things I'm doing that aren't on this list also.  I think I'm being really hopeful to think I can get two items a month quilted.  I guess we'll see how that goes.  

As for today - May 1st, I am going to start, because that's the first step to finishing.  :)  Today I'm going to put the borders on Minecraft for Carter.  Not sure after that.

February Line Up

Here's to February.  We have a lot going on here this month and it's a short month.  January seemed like a very long month and I got a lot of stuff done. 
Here was my January UFO that I listed and got done... 

It will be interesting to see how much I can do this month.  We have our family coming to visit for 5 days. Oldest daughter and husband, grand daughter, her husband and 3 children.  We are so excited.  Our middle great grandson will turn 4 while they are here and this will be the first time we get to see our great grand daughter in person.  
Then a week after they leave, I have a 4 day retreat.  That is where I'm hoping to get my February stuff done.  So Here's what I think I want  to work on and do this month. 
For my Quilting UFO.. Charming Fractions I need to get it pinned so I can quilt it. 


Next I will be making a quilt for my Daughter in law.  It may take me all 4 days, but I'm hopeful I will finish the top at retreat. Her birthday is December 31st.  That will give me a few months to get it quilted.   

I did some practice circles and feel like I can handle. 
Next I want to make another quilt for my oldest great grandson.  He had a baby quilt but he's almost 9 now.  Time for a new one.  I've been told he really likes Minecraft... but want to verify before I do all that work.  And since he will be here in person I can ask him and show him what I'm thinking.  Once I have the go ahead I will make some version of this....

 I saw several versions on Pintrest, and since I can talk to Carter I can make sure I make it with the characters he likes best. 
If I don't get to it at this retreat, I have two more in March so I can start it then. 
Other things for February - I have a couple quilt tops that need a border, then they will be ready to quilt.  
I also will be posting another post about my One Monthly Goal.  
I'm sure this is more than enough, considering that I will also have guild workshops and charity projects, and my hand stitching projects....  Oh my.  :)
