Pinwheel Quilt

When I was growing up, there was a cheesy joke: What is Black and White and read all over?  A newspaper!  Because when you tell the joke you don't know you are saying read and not red.  :)  Okay what does this have to do with quilting you ask - Well I will tell you.  
The Quilt is Black and (Off) White...  The read all over is the fact that when I finished all the components (blocks and pieced sashing units) to assemble the quilt,  the triangles that were the ends to each row do not fit.  

Here I've laid out a few blocks to see how the row go together on the diagonal.  

I read - and read - and measured and Re-read and texted a friend.  Here's the instructions for #4 fabric.

I don't know what's wrong, this pattern was a block of the month and is really old so there may have been a correction and I didn't get - but the cutting instructions do not work no matter how hard I tried.  I can't cut a 5 1/4" sq twice and get it to fit a 4 1/2" block.  SO.... I have enough fabric and ended up cutting more pieces.  I did have to change the smaller triangles to #5 fabric instead of #4, but actually that way the whole outside is the same fabric so it works fine.  Here are the first few diagonal rows sewn together.

Spa Day

Yesterday was a busy day, it started off with our little Pumpkin having her "Spa Day" at the groomers. 

She's all pretty with her little scarf.  :)

After she was done, we went to the gym.  I did 8.75 miles on the bike and then 30 reps on 5 different machines.  

I told my friend Judy I would come over and help her place an order from Amazon with gift cards she got from her children, so I gave her a call after I cleaned up from the gym.  She wasn't home so Hubby and I ran a couple errands including stopping by the library to reserve a couple of movies.  Shorty after we got home, she called and was ready for me to come over.  I did that and by the time I was done with that we were hungry - I made some pork chops and cauliflower fried rice for us.  

It was still a little early so I worked on cutting out the remaining blocks for this old UFO I found.  

Can you see the date?  2010 Yep it's old.  I saw something on Instagram about "One Thing" with Amy.  Instead of getting overwhelmed you list just list one thing you want to get done this week.  So I listed that I wanted to cut out these blocks.  Well that worked well, I'm done.  This will be another thing I will take to the retreat to work on, if I don't start on it before.  :) 

Today I want to finish cutting the borders for this quilt, then I'll cut out a couple more pillow cases.  Next - I finished the bee corner stones.  I'll take a pictures once I get them trimmed up. If there's still time I will start sewing them to the sashing and start putting the rows together on the Bee-Utiful Quilt.

Seven Swans a Swimming

I have been following Rivers Edge Quilt Loft's Free Block of the Month "12 Days of Christmas". 
I am a little behind on getting them stitched, but have been fusing them on the background each month.  Here is Month 7 - Seven Swans's a Swimming.  I got it cut out and fused.

More for July

In my last post I listed my One Monthly Goal.  The one I'm really going to push to complete.  But I also have some other items I want to work on. 
I am almost done with this Christmas Quilt. 

 I just need to quilt the borders and bind.  It's getting better but I'm still having trouble with my holly leaves.  When I can finally decide on them or something else, and feel comfortable with it - I will quilt borders, bind it and be done.  Another UFO done Yay!  I do want to finish that this month.  
* I also want to do a few scrap blocks like this -

in this months colors. "Red and Maroon".  I am kinda following Soscrappy and the monthly color choice. 
I haven't decided if I'm going to do a rainbow type quilt with all my blocks .....

or pair them up and do a few quilts.  I guess I'll figure it out. 
* Next on the list - I want to continue on with completing the Bear quilt top. For this month top stitching the bears and getting the pieced border on. 
I wanted to have this much done by the end of June but with my machine done and needing repairs it delayed a few things.  

This will be the pieced border.  

* Then because I don't want to wait until the last minute, I need to think about getting this quilt quilted. 

My Sister made the top when she came to the retreat with me last February.  She made it for her Mother in law and wants to give it to her in December.  Since she is not a quilter and is just starting, I told her I would quilt it for her.  I want to get it pinned and figure out a design to quilt on it.  And it I can start quilting it. 
Other than that I also have some "Works in Progress" include the 12 Days of Christmas BOM from Rivers Edge Antiques and Quilt Loft

As always I've lined myself up with 3 months worth of projects for one month.  That's okay - isn't doing what we want to what retirement is for.

I'm a Prepper

I'm a prepper - I've said it before, sometimes I think I like the prepping more than the the actual making. It's just fun - the excitement of a new creation forming in your hands.  So I'm still focusing on my goal of the year to keep getting winter and Christmas patterns, projects and ufo's done.  But I also want to finish other ufo's also.  So with that being said - I started this Row by Row kit sometime last year and decided I wanted to get a little more prepped on it than it was already.  I had the background pieced together and all the pieces traced and fused to the appropriate color of wool. 

So I cut them out and got them on the background. 

Now it is ready for the hand stitching. 

Then there are so many new wool BOM's going on on the internet.  Oh no!  I want to do them all but for right now I am only starting the Wool Christmas Ornaments.  It's a group on Facebook called Christmas Prestents if you are interested.  Ask to the join the group and once you're in go to the files.  

Anyway I prepped the first two ornaments and they are ready for hand stitching also.  

So that was my prepping for the day yesterday.  Today I'm making dinner, stuffed pasta shells, salad and garlic toast for my Sister and Brother in law.  She and I go to our retreat on Thursday morning through Sunday and they are leaving on Monday. So this will be our last get together for this snow bird season.  

So all that is prepped and ready to go also.  Salad is chopped and in the fridge.  Shells are stuffed and ready for the oven as well as the garlic bread.  Now I'm going to straighten a few things up and see if I can sneak in some sewing before I need to put the finishing touches on dinner.

1. Bag Lady #5  Hildigard/Katie -  Here she is.  

 2.  UFO'S:  

  2A  APQ UFO # 2  - Ruby Red Dot.  No Progress. 

  2B  Bears -  Goal - make progress - get some of the grasss and trees placed on background.  Goal Met - I am making progress:  

This is pretty much where I started at.  The bears are together - and I have them on a green background - but that's all that is together- UNTIL NOW.  

3.  Dresden Plates - Lilacs and Angel Food Cake.  Goal:  Fuse and top stitch these blocks. Here are the pictures from the pattern. I am doing mine in brights.

.4.  Charity  - Goal Met!

    4A  SNR Guild - More Dog Beds    No Pictures however we completed 17 more.  

    4B  CRQ Guild  - Welcome bags for new Teachers  

 5.  Labyrinth Quilt - Finish the top.  Goal Met - in a big way!  

  Bonus points if I can get it pinned and start quilting. I cheated a little - I took it to a long armer.   And I made matching pillow cases.

6.  SNR Guild Craft Fair - Goal Met -Each member was given a bundle of fabric to make something to be sold at the craft fair next fall.  This is the fabric I was given.  I think I'll make a table topper or 4 place mats.  Anyway I need to make something with it and turn it in.  Well as I have posted  in previous posts - That didn't go as planned.  Plan B is Frosty.

And as always - I have extras that come up that I didn't know I'd be working on during the month.  
1.  SNR Guild Workshop sample.  My guest teacher whom was a snowbird had to go home early to Canada so I ended up needing to make a sample and get things ready for the workshop myself.   Here is my double pot holder.  

2.  Preemie Pajama's for Pakistan  One of my friends and guild members had a missionary come to their church requesting pajama's for preemie babies.  I  guess she wanted to have around 20 pairs.  So here is what I helped with. 

3.   Binding for friends Quilt.  My friend asked if I would make the binding and attach to her Quilt.

4.  Project quilting.  Off Season Challenge.  "May I"
Well this was perfect because here is my inspiration - My great grandson.

4.  Charity - 

SNR guild - Need to complete a charity quilt over the summer months.  I have this one made and pinned ready to quilt.  Goal will be to start quilting it.  

5  In Box Jaunt QAL - Lori Kennedy is doing a Free Motion Quilt along.  She started it last month but I'm going to work on it this month. This will give me a good chance to practice my free motion skills.  And hopefully use on the charity quilt.

Extras: 
I'm sure I will be doing other things this month - So having these as a starting point I'm sure is enough.  The only extra that I know of at this point is getting ready for a retreat that is at the first part of July.
