2019 Retreat # 4

March 21st is my Sister's Birthday.  We had a guild meeting that morning and then a bunch of us went to Culver's for lunch.  We just got the Culver's restaurant in our town so it's a nice treat.
Then we all went home and got ready for our next retreat starting the next morning.
Here are a few photo's from where I was sitting at the very back of the room. Sweeping from Left to right in the room.

At the last retreat we were up in the front of the room.
So what did we all get done.  This is one of the several Cheryl worked on.
Here is one that Gloria was working on.
Randi aka Birthday girl - got pillows done for her granddaughters.
She also got a Southwest Turning 12 quilt top done.
And what did I do?  I finished the last 5 Minecraft Quilt Blocks.
Fishy was a challenge.

Moo-shroom

Cave Spider

Wolf

Blaze
I also got this frog on point charm quilt done.  I love the technique in this.
You sew the charm squares together.
Then you make two cuts.
Rearrange, sew back together, add a border or too and viola.
That was about it.  Cheryl and I are going to another retreat starting April 4th, then no more until June.  Oh Sad.
Randi's Birthday was 21st but I took her to lunch and gave her, her presents on the 27th. She wanted Metal Yard Art so this is what I picked out for her.  Our Mom really liked frogs so this special for that too.
I also gave her the kite table topper she wanted, 3 books she wanted and took her to lunch.
Spoiled little ... :)
She will be heading back to Oregon about a week after this next  retreat I am going to the first part of April. So in the mean time we want sandwich and pin the quilt tops she made and maybe start quilting before she leaves.  Uh oh I'm turning my Sis into a quilter. :).
Have a Blessed Day!

Playing Catch Up

The last couple of weeks have been a foggy blur... I was battling allergies really bad at the B.A.D. retreat and I think it ended up turning into a full blown cold.  I just couldn't kick it.  I took a whole week here at home, not sewing,  just laying low and not doing much but my annual physical and lots of cooking.  More about that later.
The 15th was Charity day.  Cheryl, Gloria, Randi and I sewed strip after strip together and then I would cut them into 9 1/2" blocks.  We got 40+ blocks done and then Cheryl and Gloria got them sewn together.   Since then Cheryl got it quilted and another strip quilt she did on her own and then turned into the Cottage for SNR guild. The diagonal one is the one she did on her own the wonky one it the joint effort.

On the 16th I went to Lake Havasu City for a mini quilt show for Nation Quilt Day with some of my friends, then to lunch. I didn't take many pictures but these two were neat.
A close up of the bottom one...
It's a technique where you sprinkle crumbs of scraps on the background and as in this one lay the tree's in, then you lay tulle over the top to hold it in and then quilt it to hold it all in place.
Some day, I'd like to try this technique ... Some day.
Okay now about the cooking.
I had to go in for my annual checkup.  First I have to show a couple of pictures, my Dr. does metal art in his spare time to relax... I love it.
Well my cholesterol was up a year ago so starting taking some medication, then I got it down by eating better and taking medicine, but not far enough so kept taking meds.  Then I ate really bad for a couple of months and boy oh boy stinking little blood test was such a tattle tale.  It's back up again.  Dang.  So I still need to drop a few pounds and I need to quit eating all the bad food and fast food.  So I've been researching low carb, low fat, low cholesterol recipes.  I can do lots of grilled chicken salads but my dear hubby gets bored with food fairly easily so I need to keep it interesting.  I have tried 10+ recipes so far that hubby say can be repeats.  I'm even making things with coconut flour and almond flour.  What the what?  :)
I have a few pictures but not all of them - Chicken Zucchini and Tomato
 Beans, Zucchini Fritter and Eggs.
 Baked Turkey
 Meatloaf and Roasted Veggies.
Coconut Flour Pizza (yes it's a do over - different toppings)

I also tried Pork Rind Chicken, (pork rinds have no carbs) and Cauliflower Potato salad, and Copy Cat Chipolte Burrito Bowl.   They were yummy.  I'll take a picture next time.
I'll keep you posted on new items I try and how it's going. I'm going to post on the next retreat in the next post - Until then, Have a Blessed day.

Toppers

I haven't really done a lot this last week, I have been battling allergies or a cold and I haven't had a lot of energy to do anything.  So the fact that I got the two table toppers that I started at the retreat done is amazing.
Here is the topper I made for my friend Bev's Birthday which was yesterday. She loved it.
There were 3 dimensional flowers made with ribbon along with the applique ones.

Here is the one that I made for my Sister.  I got it done except for the binding at the retreat.  She's seen it but she won't get it until around the 21st.
(Her Birthday)
The kites have ribbons on their tales.
Now that I'm starting to feel a little better, I'm making my lists of things I want to get done.
I need to cut some more squares to finish up the Minecraft quilt at the next retreat - next week.
Tomorrow is charity day at the cottage, not sure what all were doing for that.  And then Saturday a bunch of us are going to Lake Havasu City for National Quilt day.  I'll let you know how that goes.
Today hubby is going to the gym, I'm still taking it easy, and then we're doing errands and shopping.
Have a Blessed day!

.B.A.D. Retreat Part 2

Before the retreat starts there is always the planning. What projects will you work on? What fabrics am I using and then the prep work of cutting. Part of my planning this year was a gift for my Sister.

She loves giraffes, so Cheryl and I made dish towels and mug rugs for her.  Originally we were going to make them together at the February retreat because Randi wasn't at that one - but if you read my last post you know that my friend Cheryl isn't good at waiting to start stuff.  LOL She had the dish towels done like right after we even talked about doing them.  :)  So I went ahead and did mine too and then finished the binding of the mug rugs at the Feb retreat.
Then the day that the retreat set up was to happen I made a sewing mat to go under the machine that my Sister was going to use.

When we sew at the house she uses my machine that I take to classes and retreats. So when we both go to a class or retreat she uses my old machine.  I only had one sewing machine mat so I made another to surprise her.
Okay so what all did we do and work on.  I didn't get pictures of everyone's projects but here are a few.  My sister got 2 quilt tops done.  The below is a 4 patch Posey using Gecko fabric, and Ombre Orange to sash it with.

Next is a quilt she did for her daughter-in-law.

My friend Gloria worked on finishing a bunch of small projects.  She made a wall hanging and a couple of bags.  Here is one of the bags.
Cheryl made 4 or 5 quilt tops I only got pictures of a couple of them.

So What did I do?  I made a couple of Kimberbell table toppers.  One for my Sisters Birthday and one for a friend's Birthday.  I got Randi's done except the hand stitching of binding.

And got most of the top done for my friend Bev.  I'll finish that up soon.  Her Birthday is on the 13th, but I think she is going to be out of town.  I'll give it to her when she comes back.  Here is the picture from the book
and here is the top I have started.
Next I started making the blocks for the Minecraft quilt I'm making for my great Grandson. I got 7 of the 12 Blocks done.
Pig
 Cow
 Steve

 Creeper 2
 Slime and Chicken
 And Dyed Sheep
That was it for this retreat.  The next one is in a couple of weeks so we'll see if I can finish the other 5 blocks up.  I am doing Spider, Wolf, Fish, Blaze and Moo Shroom.  I needed a few more colors to finish them up so I'll be cutting them before we go. Then I'll be sashing them with black.  I would also like to pixel his name in one of the borders. I'll keep you posted on how I do. It is only a 2 day retreat instead of 4 days like the last 2 - so we'll see.
Blessings,
Lynn
