Retreat Reporting

As Always I had so much fun. I never now how it's going to go, sometimes I get lots done and sometimes not so I always bring a dozen things to work and then see how it goes.
First off I finished the binding on Winter Star by Jan Patek, and put the eyes on him. This is my OMG (One monthly goal at elm street quilts) project for the month which I will be linking up.

Take me to the OMG Finish Link-up
You can't see it very well, but if you zoom in I did a bunch of quilting of holly and snowflakes.  Next I did the snowman runner that Gloria had given me the pattern for at the last retreat.

Yay got it done even the hand stitching of binding.
Next I worked on the applique for the Umbrella quilt which is to help with my purple scraps.

I don't know how well you can see but the umbrella itself is a very dark purple. This is only the top but was glad to get it done.
After that I worked on the setting blocks for "Twas the night before Christmas".
I have the Santa 1/2 done and then need to do the lettering in the bottom right corner. So this is as much as I could do.

Now I'm really wanting to get the embroidery done so I can put it all together. I think it's going to be my next UFO to work on.

Next I worked on some charm square tote bags.  I had two charm packs that by themselves couldn't make anything - so I used them for this. Of course I adjusted them a little.  I boxed the bottom, and then added a closure tab. I will probably use some velcro and a decorative button.
I was able to get two totes out of each pack and there were even a couple left over so with the second one I made one wider and one tall and skinny.  It had a boo boo that I had to fix so it's not pictured yet.
I didn't win a door prize or any of the guessing games but it was  productive and fun.  Oh and yes we did eat a lot as always.
Remember this room from the last retreat? This was where we went to eat because there was 117 of us.
And here is part of one of our buffets.  This meal is called Club House BBQ. Chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, green salad, coleslaw, jo jo potatoes, chili, baked beans, cheese sauce and cookies.  That was one meal.
And then the breakfast buffets.  I've found that even a little bit of several things is a lot.

So what was dinner,  One night we split a spaghetti and pasta dish and one night a veggie pizza.

Here is the room. Will go from right to left, from back of the room.  Right side below.
 Middle below.
Left below.

My place and my sweet friend Gloria.
Well I  have 4 weeks until my next retreat.  It will be back in the little room only 30 of us at that one.  However, I have something going on every weekend from now through the end of March so I'm sure I'm not going to get bored. Let's just hope I can get some stuff done also.
Now I need to go cut out some strips for a workshop tonight.
Have a Blessed day -

Mellow Yellow Submarine

It's another Project Quilting challenge from Persimon Dreams.  This one is called Mellow Yellow.  Well we're asked to share our creative thoughts and processes and as always I came up with way too many ideas.  And considering I'm leaving for a retreat this afternoon and only got the email this morning (not sure why it didn't come through on Sunday) I almost talked myself out of it again. I thought of bee's and bee hives. I also thought about a rubber ducky. But this is the one I cam up with.  It is about 14" x 17"

This was my inspiration:
And here are some shots from how I created it.
I sandwiched and quilted the waves first. I randomly cut some freezer paper and used as a little bit of a guide.
Then I added the applique.
I printed an animated picture of the Beetles so I could put them in the windows, but they came out a little big so only added the one.
Then I top stitched - which served as more quilting.

And finished with the binding.

I am so happy I saw the challenge and was able to come up with something.  After I link this to Project Quilting I am packing the last few things and headed to my retreat.  I'll let you know how much I get done on Monday.
Blessings,
Lynn

Helpful Sunday - Quilting Monday

Sunday morning we headed over to MaryAnn's house, aka the lady that donated the fabric.  In her continuing effort to down size, she gave me 4 bookshelves.  So we picked those up and brought them home.
After that I went over to my friend Judy's house. She and Barbara were my first friends when I moved here.  She is battling cancer and recently found out she will have to have 3 additional surgeries, including a heart surgery to repair a valve.

Anyway I told her I would come by and help her with some computer work.  Part of it was to take this picture of her quilt so she could enter it into the quilt show, scan and email the application for her.  Then she also wanted some pointers on how to do some stuff on Facebook to keep up with her children better.
I haven't gotten to spend much time with her lately it was nice to have time with her again.
Monday I worked on this month's UFO and OMG.  I did some Free Motion Quilting.

I got the quilting done and the binding on - just need to do the hand stitching of it and then I can link it to  OMG.
Blessings -

Friday and Saturday at the Cottage

It's been a busy week since the retreat and so looking forward to the next one, more on that later.
Fridays are always my day to go to the cottage but this Friday a few of us needed to sort the fabric that was donated by a friend of Cheryl's and an ex guild member of SNR.
A picture is worth a thousand words and it's hard to explain the magnitude of how much fabric she donated. Note that approximately 10 bags of fabric have already been given to various people and organizations since we picked this up from her.  This is what is left (until we get another load) to be sorted and  measured to get ready for a guild yard sale.  * Only stuff on tables in middle.

So that is how I spent my Friday Cottage day.  So it was very nice to have Saturday Sew to be able to work on my Cottage quilt which happens to be my Wool Crazy quilts.
I finished my crazy stitches on Wool Ark Crazy foundation, so now I'm going back to the first one and finishing it up.

I got all but a small piece of the crazy stitches done.  Now to finish the applique and details.

Of course we always have a potluck on Saturdays - this month we did Mexican (my favorite) and we did Tostadas.
Ended up being a very nice day!
Blessings,

Quilt Show 2018

Colorado River Quilt Guild is hosting their next Quilt Show March 16th and 17th 2018.  They have a show every other year and this is it.  This will be the 2nd time I've been involved with the CRQ show.  Last show in 2016, I entered 2 quilts and got 2 ribbons a first and and 3rd.  This year with I wasn't sure I wanted to enter any quilts.  I have finished quilts in the last couple years but a lot of them have been given away.  However they weren't getting a lot of entries and extended the deadline to enter in hopes more people would enter - I caved.  :)  So I turned in the paper work this morning and then came home after the meeting and made labels for these two quilts.

And this one -

I went ahead and had them judged.  Neither of them are wonderful so I don't have visions of getting ribbons but it never hurts to get feed back on how to make things better. Guess we'll see.
Have a blessed day!

Whales and Snowmen

A friend of mine from Oregon is expecting another grand child. This will however be a first child from her daughter, who is the same age as our youngest daughter.  The baby's room is blue and gray and tan so this pattern and design spoke to me.
It needs to be quilted and bound and then I can ship off.
Also since I've been home - I got the background ready for my calendar quilt wall hanging.
Now to do the applique - this is part of my Rainbow scrap challenge for 2018.  I'm trying to use mostly purple scraps for this month.
At the retreat my friend Gloria gave me this pattern.  Like a need more winter stuff.  LOL  But I do Love it and and so I got it all cut out and ready to take to the next retreat which is next week.

So - now I just need to figure out what I want to work on today.
Oh and by the way - Happy Valentines day.
Blessings - Lynn

Retreat Recap

We had a really good time at the retreat. As always the time went by so fast. And surprisingly I was able to stay focused on just one project.  I wanted to see it through to completion before going on to any more projects and I did it.  What that means is I only worked on one project, but I almost got it completely done. Here is one of the place mats before quilting.
And here's one with.
And here they are with the binding on but not hand stitched yet.
Here's the table runner.  I tried quilting it also, however the tension on the travel machine was not working well, so brought home and will finish quilting it here.   I am going to use the red for binding on it.
This was my Sister's first retreat and she made it through the whole time.  She brought her book and we had a room she could go rest in and she was good and was able to stay and sew.  She only brought one quilt to work on and got it done really quick.  So my friend gave her another to work on and then she worked on some embroidery she wanted to finish up.  Here's the quilt she took.
Here is the one my friend Cheryl gave her to do.
I'm happy she liked it.  She signed up to go again next year so she really did like it.
So the retreat was fun and successful.
Blessings,  Lynn
