Quilt Las Vegas 2017

Here are some of my photo's from visiting the Desert Quilter's of Nevada show.

Disclaimer - I am not a professional photographer, I did not document the person or persons making these quilts.  I took these photo's for my own pleasure and for sharing my likes and admiration of other peoples talents.
(In fact I took a picture of a quilt I liked and found out it was made by a friend of mine.)  I don't have just one genre in the quilting world. I like primitive, modern, whimsical, art quilts.  I do favor applique over traditional and I like a more cute type of primitive than hard core folk art.

Okay -
The next couple of quits stood out to me - they are adorned with hundreds of seed beads and bling.  The time that must have taken.

Now look at this one.  All done with beads
I had to take a picture of this one - my Sister loves Giraffe's.

This next one is simple but striking.   One thing I noticed about a lot of the quilts on display - they had lots and lots of quilting on them.  Look at all the pebbles on this one.
This one was just cute - however I thought it was also neat that they thought out side of the box in putting all the animal buttons on it.

This first one was awesome with use of color and the balance of quilting to go with the flames.  So creative.

Not sure what this next one is supposed to be.  Probably should have read the card.  :)
Isn't this cute?
When I grow up - I want to be able to Free Motion Quilt - like it is in this next quilt.  Beautiful!

 Here's my friends quilt. :)

These next three look so familiar, hmm I wonder why - oh ya they are shamefully UFO's in my closet.  Two of them are 1/2 done and one about 1/5.
See what I mean about the cuter primitive.

The next few quilts were just impressive either in quilt design, or the actual quilting on them.

I love applique and do a lot of it both by hand and fusible machine.  In fact I just took a class on doing invisible machine applique. I do not have an embroidery machine that does this type of embroidery applique, however I did like this quilt. (close ups below)  Maybe because I have a few friends that love chickens.
Then next quilt appealed to my Art Quilting side.

And for my dog loving side.

I did take a few more photo's but this covers most of what really sparked my fancy - EXCEPT....... My bad friend took me to a bad vendor.  Which in turn caused me to be bad.
Ha ha ha ha.  I did pick up some new patterns to do in my spare time. I just found out about this lady and I tell you her style matches a lot of what I like.  Obviously since I bought almost one of everything she had. Just kidding (I think)  *Wink*
Here is her blog address   Simply Put Plus  - and here are some of the patterns I got.

And with that I am going to sign off and get to sewing - something old or new not sure but sewing.
Have a Blessed Day!

Cute Little Dresdens

I finally got a little time in my sewing room today and that was nice.  I finished fusing the last couple of appliques and then did the top stitching.  Aren't they cute?  These were for March.

And these are for April.

Now when I was getting ready to post this little update of what I got done - I noticed that the pictures didn't look right. To start, the spoon is on the wrong side. Hmm  pause while I go check this out.
Well looky here -  This is what they really look like.

When I took the first set of pictures they were upside down and so in an effort to "Rotate" I saw this "Vertical Flip" button.  Well guess what, it doesn't just rotate it totally flips the picture.  Nice to know for the future.  :)

Okay well that's about all I got done today - I plan on doing a little hand stitching tonight.
These need some eyes and details stitched on them and I still need to finish my March Bag Lady. and the list goes on.
By The Way - These designs are from "Quilt Doodle Doodles"  .
I am making mine slightly different and in different colors but the pattern and designs are hers.  Want to give credit where it's due.
Have a Blessed evening.

Windy Dust Storms

Two times in the last week we have had dust storms. Last Thursday was the first one, winds around 50+ with 70 mph gusts.   Below is a picture of the sun going down but there is so much dust in the air you can barely see it.
Here is another shot from Thursday of the palm tree.
And here is part of the aftermath on our patio.  It really doesn't show how thick the layer of dust was on the ground.

So then on Friday I went to the Henderson Quilt Show - So Nice I really enjoyed it.  I'll do another post to show you some of the quilts I saw.
Saturday - Hubby and I went back - to Henderson so he could look for some new grips for his golf clubs.  What a nice day spending time with my honey.
Yesterday after spending a good portion of the day cleaning up form the wind storm last Thursday. Sweeping, dusting and Vacuuming everything. This is just part of it - dust was everywhere inside and out. But I think is looks so much better.
Then I spent the rest of the day cutting out the rest of my fabric for the Labyrinth quilt. I have a workshop for it this Thursday.

I think I am all set now.

Today - hubby took off to go play golf with his group and no one showed up.  So he took his new grips over to be put on his clubs and came home.  We had some lunch and then took off to run some errands we had planned to do tomorrow.  On the way back 1/2 way through our stops - WOW - We got hit with another dust storm.
We heard on the weather this morning that the winds were coming in again tomorrow but they hit today.

Let me tell you getting out of the car and trying to get into the store was a challenge.  And talk about sand blasting.  Now a couple hours later there is a small breeze and the sky is beautiful again.

So not sure it the storm that was for tomorrow and Wednesday is still going to happen or if this was it.
Well have a Blessed Evening

Marching on to April

March seemed like a long month, but a slow month.  There was so much hand stitching that it felt like it went on forever.  I did a lot, I just don't have a lot to show for it.  I actually spent a fair amount of my time working on patterns and instructions which is the behind the scene's work.  I have a little bit more to do on the instructions for my class I'm teaching on April 27th, and then I will have all my projects and instructions for both guilds done thru the end of May.  And since the guilds go dark for a couple months in the summer - depending on which project we do in June at SNR, I could be done until September.  Yahoo.  Whew.  Okay lets see what I ended up with for March.

March

1. Bag Lady #3 - Millicent / Cheryl.  As you can see - I didn't finish. Funny thing is as of the first couple days of the month I had about this much done and thought I was going to be starting on April's early - ha ha ha.   I had too many hand stitching projects for one month.

2.  CRQ Challenge Block - Completed!   (sorry for bad picture)

3.  Church Raffle Block -

4.  APQ  UFO # 12.    This ended up being my Henrietta  Whiskers - the beginning status - the top is done and needs to be hand quilted.  I kept wanting to get it pinned so it was at least ready to go - but could not get there. - No Progress -

5. Retreat Items -   I had so many plans of things I was going to take - and I took none of the original ones.  LOL  One of them had so much cutting to do I'd still be at it - so I skipped that one.  As it was I spent two or three days cutting what I did take.  I decided to do this BOM from Quilt Doodle Doodles -  Each month she is releasing 2 more designs.  I didn't start on it until the retreat and was able to get all 12 Dresden plates done and fuse of couple of the pictures. This is what I have completed thus far.

Frog Works  -  I also took this to the retreat - this one is all cut out and a couple of the blocks traced but did not have any time to work on it.

That was is for my goals - what else went on?  I had a workshop at the big guild on invisible machine applique - Here is the one I did.  I like the technique and want to try some more.

Well what's up for April?
April

1. Bag Lady #4  Gertrude - Vickie  .......    I of course need to finish last months first.  :)

2.  UFO's
2a.    APQ   UFO # 11.  This is "Pennies from Heaven"   This UFO has a ton of work left on it so I will say "Make Progress"
My beginning status:  7 Blocks done.  Many to go.

2b.   Bear Quilt - Work on it - "Make Progress"
Beginning Status:   Bears fused, Blue Jay and Quail fused.  Top stitching and trees can be done.

3.   CRQ Guild workshop - Need to finish instructions and make sample props.  "Sweet Tweet"  (pictured above)

4.  Fuse and top stitch the next pictures on the Dresden Plate BOM from Quilt Doodle Doodles.   Not sure what they will be.  :)

5.  Make the CRQ Guild Charity Travel Kit.  Cloth and Terrycloth with compartments.

6.  Labyrinth Walk Quilt. I am taking a class on the 6th to make this quilt.

Here are my color choices.
The cutting out alone is going to take me a long time - there are hundreds of pieces that are 1 1/4" x ?..... what was I thinking.   :)

I have a whole list of other stuff I want to do - and I know other stuff comes up during the month - so if I can accomplish  the above - I'll start on the other list.  Plus after going to the Henderson Quilt show yesterday - I have a bunch of new patterns for stuff I want to start making.
I'll show you progress along the way - hopefully I will be better about posting than I was in March.
Have a Blessed Day!

Counting Days

Hello,  We have a friend named Mary that started a challenge a few years ago. She does a little bit of stitching every day.  She is up to o...
