Little Gifts

With the kids coming to visit, I was able to show them some stuff I had been doing.  And it was so cute when my daughter found a little wall hanging and asked if she could have.  

I'm having trouble finding a close up of it finished but here is what I have. 

The one she got was actually the one on the right but don't have a close up picture of it finished.

It also opened the door for them to make requests.  I love it!  This daughter, and her two children haven't gotten quilts from me yet - they're not sure what they want, so I've waited.  
So when my daughter wanted a wallet - like mine - but slightly different - of course I'm going to go to work figuring it out.  
I have a small wallet that folds and she wants it to bee like that but able to put paper money in flat. 
She said my granddaughter Jorden could pick out the colors, so her and I had fun going through my fabric to match combos of two.  You really get to see how different peoples tastes can be - and that's fine. 
Then during the process - my husband thought he would like one too.  

 

And it even has a little coin pouch on outside.
Although I like most of what my grand daughter chose, this would be a color choice of mine. 

Here is the one for that I made for my hubby - 

He loves it - He only takes what he needs for that day in it and says it's not as bulky and thick.  

Glad to have talents that can make my family happy.

Surprise

I've told the story so many times, but it's so worth it.  My husband - And Children - surprised me to tears.  
Here's the scene, we were going to Las Vegas on November 1st to pick up our long time friends that were coming in.  Me, Miss "Plan-alot-amus" wants all the detail. Are we staying are we coming home, how long will they be here, are they coming here or just staying in Vegas?  Why are we picking them up from the airport at night instead of going the next day when we can spend more time with them?  Are we really driving home through the desert in the dark?(which my husband usually doesn't like to do) 
The lies he had to tell.  All the made up stories of what this was and that was.  Did he really pull it off?Well a picture is worth a thousand words.

And yes we came home.  Here is our late night munchie stop.  

They have been here before, but it's been close to 10 years, when we were all here on vacation. They haven't been here since we moved here 3 years ago.  So the grand kids don't really remember much here at all.  The time was short - it always is, but we did get a lot done.

And then we had to take them to Hoover Dam because of course they wanted to take that "DAM TOUR"

We rounded their visit off by spending the night before their flight out in Vegas and took them to Freemont Street "Experience" - and yes as always - it was an Experience. 

It was a wonderful visit and of course I miss them so so much but so happy they came.

New Month - New starts

The older I get the more I don't like how fast time flies by. However trying to look at the bright side of things, a new month can be a reset to get you re-focused too.  My sewing friends and I have been talking a lot about "Shiny things" lately.  You know,  you're working on one thing and you see 15 other things you want to do.  Next thing you know that original project becomes an UFO (unfinished object) or a PIG (projects in grocery bags).   
Anyway - last month started out really good.  I got 2 lap and twin size quilts, 1 large wall hanging, 1 small wall hanging, 1 table topper - Quilted.  I was on a roll.  

However - I still need to do the hand stitching of the binding on the two baby quilts.  Adrianna's and Beehive Baby.  I've had a real lack of hand stitching lately.   So my Bag Ladies and bindings and a couple of other things I'm trying to do are being neglected.

I also have had a handful of doctor visits and a few day trips here and there with hubby and friends.  Remember my two friends from the Williams trip in September? I caught them on Camera.  

Cheryl and I took a day trip to Vegas and Picked up Patty on the way (Sorta) and we went to the 

"Ethel M Chocolate Factory".  They make candy for Mars. I had never heard of them so they had to take me there.  It was quite fun.  And we had an Employee that was off duty that was nice enough to give us all kinds of info on how they do things.  That made it even better. 

Then in middle of the month I went to a retreat - and I did more talking than sewing.  But I did manage to get a wall hanging  top done, and a couple of rows on a scrap quilt. :)

I didn't get a picture and it is put away for a bit so I'll have to post a picture of it later.  :) 
And the following weekend we had two sew days in a row. The first day was for charity, which was Christmas stockings for the Angel Tree at the local hospital.  I completed 8.  

The next day was open sew and we could work on what we wanted and then had a potluck.  I worked more on the scrap quilt. (Pictured above) 
I got some stuff done - just not what I thought I would be working on. 
Oh and in between, I worked on an idea for our last workshop of the year...  and this will be my last teaching workshop as Vice President and Project Coordinator for the SNR Guild.  In December we will have our last meeting and then Christmas party.  2 Years done. Here's what I'm going to teach. 

So- What do I think I want to do for November.  
My November Goals:   Gifts - That's it!  I'm making some little things for the kids and grand kids. After those are done I can work on stuff for friends.  If not they may be having Christmas in February.  LOL.
Got to get busy with other stuff.

Bee's, Cats and Dogs and Pumpkins

I don't know how long I can keep up this momentum but I'm rolling with it.  
Okay you need to sit down for this one.  If you have been reading my blog posts for a while - you will be shocked with this - Hang on to something.  Yep I quilted the Bee Hive Baby Quilt.

Oh yes I did.  Here is a couple of close ups.

As you know I belong to two guilds.  One of them has a quilt show every other year with the next show being March of 2018.  So we spend part of 2017 getting ready for it.  Part of our quilt show is our boutique where we sell stuff to raise money for the guild. At our last business meeting they had a few items laid out on a table asking to have them taken home and brought back at the next meeting.  

There was a little zip lock bag with a piece of muslin with the words embroidered - and this:    Here is what I did with it.

I think it turned out really cute. 

Then Wednesday I was not feeling 100% but wanted to play so I found this pumpkin thing that a friend had started and  ...... Here's what I did to finish it. 

 After all of that I really needed to get some of the hand stitching of the bindings done so I worked on that for the rest of the day.  
I finished the dog and cat and after yesterday I have  the Fall Wall Hanging done.  
Today I am heading out to the Cottage and going to work on my Bag Ladies.  They have been very neglected lately.

Good Start and High Hopes

My goals this month are a little on the light side.  I think I really just have maybe one goal and a lot of want to work on projects, or WIP's.  I've been really happy with my free motion quilting practice lately, (even though I still have a ways to go). So I want to keep going with it. I recently finished quilting the sheep quilt for my great granddaughter and then went to sew with my friends at the cottage on Friday.  There was another small charity Christmas quilt someone had pieced - that Annette and I had kited with backing, batting and binding in hopes someone would take and finish.  Well I volunteered to take it and got it pinned while I was there. Then I was on such a roll, I came home and pinned two more tops to have ready to go.  A Fall Wall hanging and a Java table runner.  First up - Fall. I started quilting the tree and was doing good when I realized the corner of the backing had flipped under and I had quilted it to the back.  GRRRR  :)  Sew after Un- sewing that.... here it is.   

I've had this top done for probably 5 years.  Here's how it looks from the back. 

Next up - the charity Christmas quilt I pinned at the cottage.  I am working on my meandering.  Strangely it does not come natural to me.  Also, my friend Patty freed me, she said what is the quilt going to be used for.  So even though it's a charity quilt I could practice fancy quilting on - it's also one that may be washed a lot and just needs to be quilted. So meandering should be just fine. 

I forgot to take a picture of the back it was the same fabric as the binding.  I took it to the cottage on Friday and got the binding done so left it there. That's pretty good for me.  I have tops that are years old and to think I pinned, quilted and bound a quilt in a week is a good sign. I'm encouraged to think I might be able to get that quilt top pile down to a manageable level.  

I have the java one and the bee hive one left that are pinned and ready go. I'm hoping to get both of them quilted this month also.  That may be high hopes.  I don't have a lot of goals, however I do have a couple of guild projects, a workshop and a retreat, so we'll see.

Yesterday we visited some friends and then took a drive to Las Vegas, so there wasn't any sewing or quilting. (#Vegas Strong - So sad about the massacre, and still praying for all it affected personally)   Today however - I think hubby will be golfing so I will see if I have some time to do something in the sewing room.
